Answer to question below of 'Solarangel Waldeck' about what religious order - sister answered they are Cistercians, and this order is Catholic, a later adaptation of the Benedictine rule.
@Albertino5962 жыл бұрын
What a beautiful habit and veil. Let's hope the sisters will never change it for a modernist frumpy frock and ugly headscarf like many modern nuns. My niece seems to be interested in this nunnery, but she says it's a shame that they don't have a traditional Latin Mass and stick to Communion in the hand. Now sister Anna is no longer with them, I wish the community had new candidates. Sadly, the pope prolonged the formation process by issuing this'Cor Orans' document. It is done to chase away new vocations and turn nunneries into hotels. All female contemplative monasteries should rebel against this destructive legislation by asking the bishop / pope to shorten the formation period every time they have a new candidate. It was done in the past and should be done in these difficult times. Otherwise, no women will risk their lives to wait 9-12 years to be certains if they will be received into the order.
@bigbeddie Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It's also a surprise about them not using the traditional Mass and Communion in the hand. There are quite a few nunneries which still live according to tradition.

I wish I were 40 years younger and lived in Germany... ah well. I'm a Benedictine Oblate, so that's good, too. I love her habit. BTW, the rule of S. Benedict says not "to eat the flesh of 4-footed animals"-- but as all things are taken in moderation, I don't think most abbeys adhere to that anymore, though from what I understand, the Trappists/Trappistines (who are stricter and who follow the rule of S. Benedict) are vegetarian.

Some Protestants such as the Anglicans, Episcopalians and even some Lutherans, Methodists and Presbyterians have established similar monastic and religious communities of their own, some of these have an active apostolate as teachers, social workers, nurses, etc. while others maintain a contemplative ministry behind the cloister making altar linens, vestments, bread for communion, conducting retreats, religious and devotional items, candles, food products, etc. Even in the cloister, there's no such thing as total boredom.
@Txboy85A8 жыл бұрын
+SolarAngel Waldeck This isn't surprising because those churches to some extent and degree, follow the Carholic church in some way. Methodists state they believe in the Catholic Church at the closing of their service. They fall under the same apostate umbrella with the Catholic Church.
@sxyslyvxn8 жыл бұрын
As long as Catholic means 'universal', I have no complaints...LOL I think they ought to also include Orthodox, since that means 'true faith' as well. In GA we have an Anglican-Episcopal religious order of nuns called Sisters of St Helena, named after the woman who allegedly found the True Cross while on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It was said she was in her early 40s when she became a Christian along with her husband Constantine, who is also revered as a saint in the Eastern rite churches. It was said she found it under a sprig of sweet wild basil growing in the area. As a result, some countries in the Mediterranean never use it as a cooking ingredients but others do as well as a healing implement in medicines and in holy oils for anointing the sick, ordinations, baptisms, etc. Others even use it as a sachet in their homes. A lot of Anglican-Episcopal churches had re-instituted several of the old Catholic religious orders after Henry VIII had dissolved a lot of the monasteries and convents in the British Isles during the Protestant Reformation as a sign of his severance with Rome. Some adopting the old traditional rules of the original orders but swore their oath of loyalty to the head of the church in England, in this case, the current ruling sovereign of England because one of their honorable titles was that of being 'Defender of the Faith'. This title was originally bestowed on Henry VIII when he was a young prince and studying for the priesthood and his older brother Arthur was the then Prince of Wales. When Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in a German church, one of his arguments pertained to the 7 Sacraments (Baptism, Penance, Communion, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Marriage and Anointing of the Sick) . He argued the should be 2 (Baptism and the Eucharist) instead. Copies of his arguments were spread throughout the continent, including England. Henry wrote a rebuttal of this entitled, 'In Defense of the 7 Sacraments'. The then Pope obtained a copy and encouraged others to read this. It was so well received the Pope gave Henry the honorable title 'Defender of the Faith'. (Many other royal houses throughout Europe and some Islamist countries still use that title on their sovereign as well to this very day.) Years later, when Henry obtained a divorce from his 1st wife, Catherine of Aragon, and remarried his 2nd wife Anne Boleyn, the title was taken away from him. It was only due to an act of Parliament was the title restored to him. Several religious orders had to undergo a serious transition, at the cost of their own lives in most cases, when Henry was declared the head of the Church in England. Some even had to change names of their respectable orders to placate their king. To be sure, they were still allowed to be attached to their vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and, in some other orders they added stability and adherence to their rule as well as loyalty to their superiors and acknowledge the ruling sovereign as Christ's vicar on Earth. Some complied and others didn't and found themselves thrown in jail, tortured and executed on grounds of high treason. When a group of monks and nuns mounted the scaffold on Tower Hill, Thomas More (one of Henry's top advisers who was awaiting the same punishment) told his daughter Margaret, who was distraught watching this grisly sight from her father's prison cell, "Don't be upset, dear Meg. Don't you see how cheerful they go, like bridesmaids and bridegrooms on their way to a wedding?" When Thomas went to his trial, he remained silent even when false witnesses were brought in to testify against him, like another man before him at His hearing before three judges (Caiaphas, Annas and Pontius Pilate). And when Thomas was asked to answer in his defense, he replied, "I think no harm, I say no harm, I do no harm...but I do wish everyone good!" ;-) He was even in good humor to the end as he was being escorted to the scaffold, "See me safe up, dear Lieutenant, but for my coming down, let me shift for myself!" And since he wasn't allowed to speak before the crowd, he simply forgave the headsman and added, "I die a good servant of the King...but God's first!" But speaking of some religious orders changing names, one prime example that comes to mind is that of the Poor Clares. There's a contemplative Catholic order whose full name is the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, referring to their perpetual devotion of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. With a monstrance on perpetual display in their chapel, 24-7-365, several nuns spend a few hours in prayer with others working other daily routines of chores ranging from gardening and making altar linens, vestments, etc. These are all done in rotation. The Anglicans have a similar group called Poor Clares of Reparation, adopting the same spiritual and temporal formula of the Rule of St Francis (which is based from Scripture and other sources) and using the Book of Common Prayer. Like their Catholic brethren and sisters, they do have both active and contemplative ministries and each have similar charisms yet share the same spiritual bond of universal prayer, with the same degree of dedication of loving and serving God and neighbor in various ways.

We have Trappist monks where I live but no Trappistines. I once visited a Visitandine (Sisters of the Visitation) convent where I live. I once made a comment to one of them they must be quite bored behind the cloister and I got a lot of laughs. One of the nuns said to me, "Bored? Did you say 'BORED'? I pray every day for boredom...there's no such thing as a dull moment here!" They rise as early as 5 AM and assemble in chapel in total silence and prayer, the Angelus is recited at 6 AM, then they chant the Daily Office and morning prayers before Mass, which is around 7 AM. After Mass, they have a brief period of quiet prayer before departing to have a small breakfast After leaving chapel, they greet one another, including the mother-abbess, with the words in either French or English. The abbess greets everyone in the community, "Vive, Jesus, mes filles!" ("Live, Jesus, my daughters!") And they reply and greet one another, "May God be praised, Good Morning, Sister!" And go about doing whatever chores might be assigned or acts of 'obediences'. This can be range from sweeping and mopping the hallways; working in the laundry room; attending classes and training by either the mistress of postulants or novices, etc Around 1045 they assemble again for the Daily Office and around noon the Angelus is recited before leaving the chapel and having lunch in the refectory, which is also done in silence while someone reads a book on spiritual matters, like the lives or letters exchanged between the founders of the order, Sts Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal, in which they offered each other spiritual advice; papal encyclicals on various topics; copies of homilies/sermons from neighboring parishes, etc. On one occasion, I read some to the nuns in French and English because some of the nuns in the community were French Canadian or from the French West Indies, parts of Africa, etc. After lunch, there were more chores followed by a brief rest followed by some time in our cell for quiet prayer-time and meditation before going to classes and choir practice for upcoming feasts and wished to sing some hymns for the occasions. It was in a way like singing 'Happy Birthday' to a particular saint....LOL Around 6 PM, the Angelus was recited again before they assembled in the chapel for vespers for about an hour, then came supper, followed by recreation in the main parlor or outside. The nuns engaged all kinds of hobbies, telling of their previous experiences before entering the cloister, their family life, etc. Some were previously married or widowed, disabled in some capacity but were able to continue serving God regardless. They then gathered in the chapel for night prayers until about 930 at night and left the chapel to their cells quietly calling it a day...
