I came into the trades years ago, when having a woman on the job was rarity. I am now retired, but can state unequivocally that, as a foreman, I’ve had some women on my crews I’d take ahead of 99% of the guys out there. Sure, some of them aren’t necessarily cut out for it, but neither are many men. What everyone does deserve is an equal opportunity and we need to approach everyone with an open mind. Give people a chance and they might surprise you. That’s something I learned from experience, which helped me to discard many pre-conceived notions I may have had.
