I think a large part of why Lee was so stoic was because of her doll, when the mom blew its head off Lee was released from its influence, hence her personality change at the end.

The thumbnail explains everything. This movie is shot and filmed in a way that gives me hardcore Alan Wake 2 vibes. This movie is the most Nicholas Cage with the least Nicholas Cage possible. The most efficient Nicholas Cage ratio ever devised. Happy Halloween Mary 🎃

If you want to see great Nicolas Cage performances, I highly recommend 2 movies: ADAPTATION (2002) (for which he was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar but had the bad luck of running against Adrien Brody for THE PIANIST that year) and PIG (2021) (the latter is a unique exploration of grief).

This film is directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of Anthony Perkins famous for playing Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960). If you like the vibe of this film you should watch another one of his films called "The Blackcoat's Daughter" (2015) - his first feature.

I was a big fan of his film 'I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House', although it got some pretty mediocre scores on certain sites for some reason I found it an excellent slow-burn and quite eerie.

While this film has riveting moments on the first watch it is DEFINITELY one of those that rewards with multiple viewings. Perkins did an outstanding job directing; the surreal, slightly-out-of-phase with reality atmosphere is highly effective for this kind of story. And what can one say about Nic Cage? The most fearless, unique, and dedicated actor working today. The amazing thing about Nic is regardless if he is working on a big budget film or a low grade indie production the man never phones it in, he is fully present, always self-aware, and his genuine love of obscure acting techniques going back centuries is an unpredictable treat. Forget "hail, Satan', HAIL, NIC CAGE.

Hail Mary! Dark movies like Longlegs should have their own category. So many so-called scary movies are just campy and silly. Longlegs was dark as *.* Director Ozgood Perkins puts a lot of hidden layers and subtle clues people miss on first watch. For example, a silhouette of Satan made 15 appearances in Longlegs. Few notice any at all… I didn't on my first watch, but then I began to see them on subsequent watches. In his movie "The Blackcoat's Daughter", each time you watch it you find more details that just blow you away and you realize what a well-crafted movie it is. Oz Perkins has a great future in horror.

The main reason Harker showed little to no emotion for the first 2/3 of the movie is because she was under the doll's influence still. Once it was destroyed, she was able to think and feel for herself (hence the screaming in the car and freezing up at Ruby's birthday - the sudden rush of emotion and clarity was too much).
@MrGpschmidt22 күн бұрын
Cage said in interviews this would be his sole serial killer role (the demand increased after this terrifying turn) - he himself doesn't like violent films (go figure). It is suggested that Harker is on the spectrum hence some of her seemingly odd behavior which is consistent thru out. Maika Monroe said that she did not see Cage in his full make-up until the interrogation scene so the reaction is genuine shock and was printed on that take. Oz Perkins - who wrote & directed - is best known as Reese Witherspoon's gay bud in the LEGALLY BLONDE films, is the real-life son of Anthony Perkins, none-other-than-Norman Bates :D Hail Satan!

The ending is not a happy one and left to the viewers' interpretation. My take: Her weapon would have had rounds to shoot the doll as she fired it only three times prior. However, it is likely she was merely imagining she was firing at the doll. Her expression and tears indicate she was aware she had lost the battle with Long Legs and surrendered herself to continue doing what her mother had been doing, in exchange for the life of the little girl. Just as mother did to spare her. A vicious cycle.
