I just love those dresses the Sisters Sledge are wearing. Great song and great fashion for early 80's times.

I never did meet this wonderful sister act, but when Joni passed away, it was like I lost my own sister. I do not know why, but she was so young and I feel such a loss when someone so young passes. Rest in Peace Joni!

A #1 hit for Sister Sledge on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 435th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #2 on the Top 40 charts, and #1 on both the Hot Dance Club Play charts and in Canada.

On this day in 1979 {June 9th} "We Are Family" reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's R&B chart... About five weeks earlier on April 28th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} and spent 19 weeks in the Top 100...

There's no vocal sound like Sister Sledge and this song is pure fire. Also a compliment to the drummer. Leading and in the pocket, right on target.

I was 17 years old in 1980. Back then I was listening to Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Yes etc... I have no idea what made me think of this song all of a sudden and look it up. Funny how music brings back memories of times you never thought you had... even from a lifetime ago.

You should check out Kathy Sledge's music video for her new single released in 2011 called "Give Yourself Up". It's got some throwback lines to "Family". It's doing really well on the charts too. You can find it here on youtube.
