This isn’t explored much in the show aside from when they’re actively moving, but they have all said things off camera that indicates they moved very frequently before the show. The family moved like thirteen times before the show and consider that Logan, the oldest child, was only 16 or 17 when the show started. I think this context is helpful when viewing the kids’ and wives’ reactions to moving.
@Schu00866 ай бұрын
I would also say that in terms of whether it’s good or bad for the family, it’s almost impossible to say. Many of the children have become very successful and highly educated adults. I don’t think their church school in Utah would have necessarily provided them with the foundation needed to be successful in higher education given that it was unaccredited fundamentalist religious education. I also think they were homeschooled before attending the church’s school so they might not have had a lot of time with friends socially before that and may have felt like they were losing this whole life they’d discovered for the first time. But moving is a big hardship for a lot of the older kids, especially. You can see on their faces how they are struggling with moving again.

When the Browns moved away from Las Vegas, there were (4) separate households full of stuff with some 18 kids involved in the move to another State. Also the kids had to give up friends they made in Las Vegas & their schools & some were in the important high school years. That is the worst time to move kids unless for a very good reason. What were Robyn & Kody's reasons for doing that big move? No Spoiler

Not Mormon but raised Christian so i thought i would chime in here about the "making a decision out of fear" - in many christian denominations fear is seen as an evil almost like sin and/or from the devil. Because we are taught that the bible says we should fear only God and nothing else- and that if we fear something to the point that is affects you and your decision making and life then it influences you, therefore is now your god. Also- idea that fear is opposite of faith, of which how faithful you are = status of how 'christian' you are. (not crazy to see how many of us have the fear of fear- lol)

I think most of us either forgot or didn't notice the dog kicking. However, I don't think any of us are surprised. That should tell you something

No flavor if mormon women should ever complain about not being listened to by her husband. He is the absolute authority in everything and shouldn't be questioned. She obviously hasn't been reading her BOM.

In the religion, I’m guessing there’s a strong focus on “fear vs faith.” I think that’s the subtext to the conversation around making the decision. I’m not from this sect, but I think the cultural undertones of that mentality might be similar to the religion I adhere too, being in Utah. I could be off, but that’s the context I saw, wanting her spouse to give the reasons that will be positive, building with divine guidance and support in faith…the same reason and energy that likely helped them choose this lifestyle.

Same! I had watched the first few seas8ns as they came out and it is so interesting rewatching this. The things I see I hadn't noticed at the time!

But Kody did say that the wives had a vote. He just didn’t consider that vote.

On why they don't want to be motivated by fear...in the Mormon tradition, faith is the opposite of fear. You're supposed to bravely do what is right and trust God will take care of you. Otherwise you are not being faithful.

The dog kick was more obvious before they edited the episode. That moment got a lot of backlash from the fans when it originally aired. Deservedly so imo.

Yup robyn kicked the dog, im surprised you caught that, i missed it the first time. She admits to not being an animal lover. Anybody who dislikes animals is X'd out of my book completely

How the heck did he see the “dog kick”…. Jeez. I have watched this multiple times…so freaking quick- i can barely make it out. I think “kick” is overstating a bit- looks like she held her leg out so dogs wouldn’t get to the kids…I think she was trying to get dog or keep dog away from child. Child might not like dogs.
