I agree with you, Sarah, that CP was simply a place to consolidate the money from the sale of the homes in Vegas. And he's playing the long game of pissing off Janelle and Meri so that they lose interest and give up on CP. I also think that's why he agreed so easily to Christine's offer to walk away from CP and take her home equity and run. Kody didn't need to agree to that. He could have fought her on that. Even Christine thanked him for agreeing to that arrangement. Kody also appears to view CP as his own property already. He is chopping down trees, making dirt bike trails all over the land without consulting Meri or Christine if it's OK with them that he do that. I'd like to see how Kody would feel if Janelle and Meri contracted a firm to knock down the trees off Robyn's plot or his plot and kept the proceeds for themselves. I don't know what Kody is doing with the trees, he might just be using them for firewood to heat their house in the winter, but he is harvesting something that benefits him without permission or acknowledgment from his business partners/investors Janelle and Meri. I grew up in a cult. It may not seem like much to others, but to use the word "cult" when you leave is quite empowering. You're taught God can "strike you dead" if you leave. At the least, you'll be angering God and will "feel his wrath." You're also groomed the one thing you are not is a cult. It's a dirty word. So, to use the word openly and without fear--YOU GO, MADDIE!!! ❤✊🏼 I see you. I hear you. And the word "charismatic" is used to describe cult leaders. I encourage you to look up the word, because a religiously charismatic person is defined differently. They often claim to have healing powers. Often speaking in tongues, etc. It's not the traditional definition of charismatic (charming, inspirational, attracts people to them, etc).

As someone who really only watches commentary on the show, because it hits a little too close to home... many, and I mean, most reactors to the show fail to see how insidious and deep these teachings and doctrines are in people who live and believe it. The way that you were parented as a child is usually heavily heavily impacted by your parents' beliefs, your parents set the model for how you regulate your emotions, How you think through hard concepts and problems, how you justify or achieve your goals. And even what is acceptable to have as a goal. In order for children and a family to be able to see past the model of their parents/community and what they've been taught and told, they need to be allowed to have freedom to express themselves in their identity. And in cults, like this, in high demand religions like this, there is no space for that. Kody's wives are not as healthily developed, emotionally, and mentally because of their beliefs and how they were raised. When people comment on how the behaviors of these women and even kody don't make sense, I disagree. It makes complete sense. Because this is how I was taught, this is how I was raised. These are the same mechanisms and coping skills and strategies that have been employed and developed before me through my parents and my community for generations. It's incredibly impressive for any child raised in such a high demand religion and community to be able to break free from it emotionally and mentally and disentangling themselves from it like maddie has. My sister was very similar in that. She just accepted that she wasn't going to ever be able to measure up or be happy doing what our religion taught her was correct... She just accepted that she was destined for hell, too. She still carried the shame of failure for a long time. When I was seven, before I was baptized, I would dream about dying before I was baptized because I knew afterward I would be accountable for my sins for the first time... I felt that there's no way that I could endure to the end and do everything correctly, and that it would be better for me to die without the chance to try so that I could be with my family forever. I didn't want to be the weak link. There is insane amount of pressure behind these beliefs, and it is not confusing to me at all why these women in their fifties still struggle with disentangling themselves and their identity from these beliefs. I just don't think that the average person watching the drama has any idea how encompassing the teachings and beliefs of this church is. Most people's takes are hollow because they fail to account for it. I will say that most people don't even mention the religion because they're trying to be respectful, but I firmly believe that religions don't inherently deserve respect. People deserve respect. I applaud maddie for getting out and disentangling her brain from her cult, and I am so glad that she's able to walk with her mother patiently and lovingly through her own journey. I likewise have to hold my own mother's hand as she struggles with a new type of reality, a reality where mormonism is a lie and harmful. Losing your faith is hard enough, being so Entangled in a cult makes it excruciating and long and painful, and people who are going through it deserve the type of patience and support Maddie and her husband are giving janelle.
@joerudnik9290Ай бұрын
Lots of people are able to recognize and disengage from their religions, at an early age. A lot of it has to do with your critical thinking skills, and your willingness to endure conflict when you speak of your beliefs. It just made me a total cynic. I choose to believe God will judge my soul at the end of my life, to follow the 10 Commandments, and be a good human. It’s that simple. 👍 Everything else is nonsense. Those rules were made from interpretations from the Bible, a book that has been translated thru far too many languages, dialects, and slang. And is interpreted differently. Get rich quick schemes and scarcity/poor mindset is VERY popular among evangelicals and fundamentalists. My parents were the same way and it was hard for me to learn how to handle my money.

Hmmm I wonder if there is maybe a smidge of hypocrisy with Maddie? I am so proud of the growth she has made! My only qualm is her not liking “getting rich quick schemes” while simultaneously being part of an MLM. Is she not still selling Plexus? Maybe I’m misinformed.

No it’s not parenting your parent. It’s being a supportive kind to his mother in law.
@michelej4971Ай бұрын
The thing about the tax refund and how the different parents handled it, makes me laugh. My parents always spent it, but it would either be put on the mortgage or set aside for our summer family vacation. They didn’t spend it on random crap. So, I guess what I’m getting at is, being poor and not being able to save for long periods of time is different than saving for a specific goal.😊
@ShellBAtomsАй бұрын
That's a typical pattern known by economists. Folks without much money tend to spend what they have when they have it. Financial literacy is seen more with folks who aren't living hand to mouth in the first place. ...and of course there are exceptions... but there are trends. No judgement - just something confirming with something I learned in an econimics class.
@michelej4971Ай бұрын
@ I think if you’re spending your money on crap, you’re absolutely right, but if it’s on food and housing, it’s called making it work because you have no choice. Now I have no illusions that Kody spent it on crap….just look at his art and jewelry! 😂 But with 15 starving children, he should have been spending it on food storage.

I definitely wouldn't say that Caleb telling Janelle he was proud of how far she's come is parenting, but I do think the older kids did have to do a lot of the parenting their whole lives and that's something I can relate to and it's so sad.

I don’t think Caleb and Maddie are “parentified” for being supportive and speaking life into Janelle. Yes Janelle is the parent, but they’re all adults. Being loving to someone you love who you believe is effected by a cult shouldn’t be pathologized.

If Maddie is still involved with Plexus, she needs to take a long look in the mirror and practice what she is preaching. Multi Level Marketing is the epitome of "get rich quick" scheme while steeped in cult like behavior. Girl, please with your "I'm so much better than my family" attitude. You are just as bad.
@Sin-D_Ай бұрын
The ONLY reason why the Browns are successful with any MLM is because they are public figures “with a large following.” You REQUIRE a large following or exposed to many people in your daily life to make a living wage. Or those few who got in at the very beginning and have many victims under them who they benefit from who are barely making enough to cover childcare - hence, pyramid (MLMs prey on young mothers with promises of money and flexibility.) Less than 5% of all who sign up with an MLM make a good living wage or better. Lularoe is another horribly predatory MLM. The other 95% cycle through and sell to all of their family and friends (twice), and then reality hits that they can’t sell enough product to make a living and then get out, plus many were just ordering to support your new venture, but it gets old. Usually, they spent $$ to get in, and end up selling or giving away their remaining inventory at the end to just get out. It’s a typical 2-year(ish) cycle. (DONT DO IT IF U R THINKING OF JOINING ANY MLM!!)

This multiple wives stuff is straight up wrong, im so glad these didn't fall for that up bringing. Kooty and sobin will try their dead level best to beat Mari and Janelle out of their part. We are not proud of our children exclusively, we can also be proud of our peers, and I think that what we see is that Janelle respects Maddie and Caleb as fellow adults (not with the ego and assumed superiority that Kodi deminstrated) and so they have a healthy adult friendship amogst the three of them.
@brendam.5932Ай бұрын
My guess is Kody took out another horrible mortgage with an adjustable rate and that $400k in equity will be gone when the balloon payment comes due and he doesn’t have it. He better hope he can still sell that house for enough to get out from under the crappy mortgage and still have some equity left over or he’s just made yet another horrible financial mistake….
@laurieerickson7205Ай бұрын
I just hope he and Robyn didn’t screw over Janelle & Meri by using Coyote Pass as collateral against it
@brendam.5932Ай бұрын
@ I think their only shot is probably coyote pass at this point. Selling the old house and buying the new one under their trust…I doubt they’ll see any of that money ever again. That being said, they did admit to that old McMansion was a “family” asset that Janelle and Meri both contributed funds to, so I believe that footage could be used in court for Meri and Janelle to get a judgement. I just hope they do not wait too long to file. So often there is a clock on when you can file a case.
@laurieerickson7205Ай бұрын
@@brendam.5932 exactly. In terms of litigation, the clock winds down fast. I know they don’t want their lots, but dear lord, don’t be foolish about the money and property value. We already know K&R’s MO is lying
@brendam.5932Ай бұрын
@ they wouldn’t have been able to use the lots with Janelle’s and Meri’s name on them without their sign offs.

Janelle thinks it's faith, but she actually seems to be more "married" to a lifestyle, not a faith. She does not talk about polygamy for the afterlife. She talks about it fulfilling her wants here and now. She wants a man that is the same man around for once or twice a week or when she needs something. In earlier decades it was to have a family and others take care if the kids while she went to work. None of this is faith. We don't really hear her talking about faith in her god or even the afterlife like we do with the others.

Anyone know the property tax rate in AZ? I wonder if they considered taxes on their new purchase, since they have a history of late taxes on the first mansion. I’m guessing that $10k/mo mortgage payment is really more like $13-15k!

Where is the clip with Christine’s response to Robber when Robber was lipping off and being bossy to the kids about saying they should not be allowed to choose their own religion or make decisions about who they wanted to be friends with? Robbers clueless daughters are adults and still don’t have the ability to choose a church or date or live their own lives. Meanwhile Robber is trying to spread the lie she is this sweet caring shy person who cares about everyone. She’s such a lying fake.
