My husband and I have been together for 16 years and married for 8. We did it for the business reasons because it was already understood that neither of us were going anywhere and we would be together forever. We don’t live near our family and we wanted to make sure that in the event of an emergency we could make decisions for each other. The other side was taxes and our daughter’s last name. It was more for ease of communication than anything. Also, your hair turned out cute 😊!

I was never one that cared about marriage…until after I got married. My parents divorced when I was 9 and my mother never remarried, so I didn’t grow up believing in an idealized vision of marriage. I can’t explain why or how, but we do have a deeper bond since marrying and, dare I say, I feel more secure and maybe even happier. As you say, the “business” side of marriage may be a consideration as you have children and assets and want to make sure things are handled accordingly if something happens to either of you.

Pipe cleaner curls are cute 🥰 on you. I personally would not live with a man for 19 yrs and not be married. But I understand how u feel about the CB marriage ceremony. However you both are raising young black men. And hopefully they will fall in love one day and want to marry and raise a family of their own. Your beliefs will be instilled in your children that will be extended down to your grandchildren and great grandchildren etc. Its your family dynamics and you both decide the rules, guidelines and life path your family will journey. My 2cent... I completely agree. Marriage is for suckers. However, I just got remarried lol. I made the decision because someone drop in my spirit... We make so many commitments. We commit to buy a car and signing contract for it, we commit to buying a house and sign contracts for it... but we struggle committing to the love of our life? I'm not saying that you are not committed, because you been doing it for 19 years, but what's stopping you from that next level of commitment? You said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... well, hopefully people are not getting married because something is broke in the relationship, lol.... @@LenasLovelyLocs1 I believe it mimics marriage and allows for legal rights. Prior to the lgbtq community being granted the right to marry, this concept was introduced. It’s definitely something to look into if your state has it. I have a friend that has been with someone for 30 years and they have everything set up legally for him or her to make medical decisions, etc.

I don’t think my hair is long enough for pipe cleaners but I bought them a while back and can’t wait to do them. Now about not thinking anyone will come challenge you about the Will and what not. The thing is death can sometimes bring the worst in people. Also when someone is grieving you are not getting a rationale person. It’s a different sometimes beast. I’d be careful with that.

I love your video and I agree with your view on marriage. Frankly, I belief people tend to follow the laws of the land and European standards out of fear of judgement or criticism. However, a commitment is a commitment if that is who you are as a person. I am choosing to get married because of the legal side that you also mentioned. It just makes it less complicated. The world has many followers. I for one have never been a follower of, not of jesus or man. I believe in living based on standards and beliefs that work for me. Don’t allow anyone to pressure you. No one has the right to judge. My father is a pastor and I was raised inundated with religion. Church folks always want to point fingers when they really should take a hard look at themselves. What you should do is get the legal paperwork done. Everything that's for your children should be put in a trust and its safe, Life insurance policies included. Also make you have legal documents for custody in the event either of you go b4 the other. Hair is cute!

Yes on the style however not for me. I do not have the patience to install the pipe cleaners. OAN You have to do what feels right for you and your house. Setting up a trust for your kids instead of a will could be an option as well. This is executed upon death without going through probate.

Marriage has benefits…as stated, if something happens to your partner you can get his social security, transfer of property, etc. you make all of the decisions not his next of kin…if your children are under age, it would be his living parent.
