I watched this show when it came on in the 1980's on HBO!!! I haven't seen it in so many years. This was a wonderful show. I wish I could find the entire show. My mom would just scream to see this again. OMG!!! Thanks so much from the bottom of my heart for posting this. Just beautiful. You put a smile on my face today. These 3 sing the hell out of this song. This is what I call singing. :)

You can tell that Patti really wanted to let loose in this but she had been asked by Dionne to tone it down so as not to drown the other two. And rightfully so I think, after all this was a trio, not a solo with two backup singers:-).

@Lindow ....that's true. Nevertheless, they both know who Patti is and what they're going to get when she sings. Glady's asked Patti to be on the show and I'm sure she didn't say, "Now Patti girl...tone it down so we can be heard". Glady's appreciates Patti's voice and can hold her own. Now if Dionne wasn't able to handle another voice being louder than hers she should have not signed up for the show. Just a thought. :-)

what are you people talking about. they were all singing the right parts coming in where they were supposed to come in. this was uncomfortable for me because all three of them were out of their comfort zone with that arrangment but they made it work. Pattie definately was out of what she is used to doing, so was Dionne, now Gladys maybe just maybe might have done is better justice on her own. Somewhere over the rainbow would have been a killer for the three as they all have covered that solo.

I know 25 years Patti will get a lifetime achievement award and sing very well on the BET awards, Gladys will win a Soul Train Lifetime achievement and sing a new song with Bebe Winans very well. and Dionne will go on the Celebrity Apprentice and make a fool out of herself and attempt to sing but everyone who hears her realize the cigarettes have destroyed her voice completely.

The EMPRESS produced this special and as a producer, made sure it got done. But, if they do another "Sisters", I hope Dionne and Gladys don't allow Patti to sing a solo when they are supposed to be singing harmony. For me, Patti ruined the song.
