This is my favourite version of Marian. Utter aural ecstasy. Have not fallen out of love with it since the first time I heard it over 30 years ago.

I have the same name and tbh, good move. It’s not super weird that the kid would get made fun of but like just rare enough to feel special. Plus it’s quite a romantic name for sure.

These performances from the 1985 Royal Albert Hall concert are my favorites by this band. Such drama! Such great playing! I first visited the UK (from the US) in the summer of 1985, and at that time I had never actually heard the Sisters of Mercy. I had only read about them in the UK music papers. One night in London I went to some club, maybe it was the Batcave, and they started playing some dark, amazing song. I just *knew* it was the Sisters. It turned out to be "Temple of Love."

That's a fabulous song. One of my favorites. As is their cover of Gimme Shelter.

Wouldn't have been the Batcave, as by '85 it was long gone. Maybe it was the Kit Kat?

I know this is not the story of the song, but I always imagine this song as a dedication song from a man who lost his fiance named Marian in a drowning accident. They both lost control of the ship and the remains of this song are about how he survived while she passed and him calling her spirit for help and guidance. And whenever he says "Marian" he is tempted to be taken by her spirit to join her in the afterlife. This is a beautiful lovely song

@@Spookythereaper3 well, I think I was born a tiny bit before the song was released (but also in '85, pretty funny anyway). Eldritch's Big German love called Marian.

@@Spookythereaper3 O well, I don't think that it's unfortunate that you were born a few years later. Be sure - that's a problem every generation has. Take me as an example, I'd love to be born in the 70ies but ended up in the middle of the 80ies. :D

@@marianliebold1734 True, I was born in 76, would have loved to be born in the early 50's so I could have enjoyed the 60's as a teen but the 90's were not bad neither being a teenager :)

This was supposed to be the last performance by the Sisters classic lineup, but Gary Marx left before the gig (I was there). If you can find them, the Black October tour the previous year had much better performances. I can vouch for the 31/10/84 Lyceum gig, and there's a widely available bootleg of that.
