Found a sitarist "Karma Dharma" playing in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Apparently, the artist has never visited India and has never taken any formal lessons in playing the sitar or indian classical music. It was a pleasant surprise to hear him in the sacred city of Santiago...just captured some moments...Hope you enjoy!
Thanks to Joserra, Bea and Julio!

Indian classical music originates from the period of saam Veda (साम वेद) and it was primarily played and practiced in religious atmosphere of that era , just take a look of this man playing sitar ,in some south american city the expressions in his eyes are so pure and innocent this is the impact of Indian classical upon a person who engages with it .

Pt.Ravi Shankarji great Sitariest and very learned musician
@DutchmanAmsterdam
@DutchmanAmsterdam 3 жыл бұрын
I would say he was one of the greatest but there were and are many great sitarists and other indian classical musicians. He was great for sure but it is being said that his wife Anapurna Devi, the daughter of his teacher, was even greater but he never allowed her to perform, obviously because he was jalous and a male chauvinist. He taught his daughter Anoushka Shankar to be a great sitarist too though. Check her out on youtube. I found that Nikhil Banerjee's sitar playing had more depth, beauty and mastery than Ravi's. Nikhil's sitar teacher was Anapurna Devi, Ravi's wife. That proofs something about Anapurnas capabilities doesn't it? Also Ravi fathered a child in USA, Norah Jones, half sister of Anoushka. You see, he took all liberties and deprived Anapurna Devi. For that reason Osho, Bhagwan shree Rajneesh never allowed Ravi to perform in Osho's commune. Other greats like Usman Khan and Fayaz Husain Khan have though. Osho was always against repression of women. Man and woman are really one, so if you repress your woman you are repressed too actually. The master is a slave as well. Bounded by the master-slave relationship. Therefore not free. Also Vilayat Khan was legendary. You have to check out his son Shujaat Khan. He both sings and plays beautifully. And Shahid Parvez is a legendary master of the meend, bending of the string, and playing entire melodies that way. Superb. So Ravi was one of the many great indian classical musicians.

I have always felt that India was my home even though born and raised by dutch/german in Netherlands. I fell in love with indian classical music when I first heard it at 13 years old, and with yoga too. I went to India at 18 and stayed 2 years and studied indian classical music. Most importantly, met indian sages though. Turned out in our heart we are not bound by things like nationality or anything. On the surface though everything is supposedly separate and temporary. That is just an illusion though, as indian philosophy teaches us. In separation is always conflict, in union always peace. Diversity and union, outside and inside, like to wings to fly, a dance between time and timelessness.
