Yeah, that is Edward, who was once the baby who was dying and was healed by Iseult. Man, has time flown. And of course they're scared of Skade. It's a very superstitious time back then. Omens, curses, touching religious amulets to protect yourself from evil...they believed in it all.

For some reason, I'm obscurely disappointed that Aethelflaed isn't blonde like in the books, but I suppose they didn't want it to look too strange when they changed Ealhswith's hair from blonde to brown, and Alfred.

12:40 well it makes sense they are scared of her, its one thing many people didnt get about this plot point this season but they were very superstitios back then.. they believed in all kinds of creatures and monsters like dwarfs and trolls and sorcerers.. its the same with Ivars scene in vikings when hes alone yelling at the soldiers

the "magic" in this series is usually presented as being only as real as peoples perception of it. The characters believe it, but there's many non magical reasons for events to have happened the way they do...like Alfreds son surviving...he had a fever and needed to be cooled and then kept at a stable temperature which the briton princess did by laying him in the river mud to cool him, then warming him with her body. I liked that they kept it vague. You get the feel of the world the characters are living in, while also having the benefit of seeing their world from a perspective a 1000 years more knowledgeable

This premiere was solid. We got good development, new characters and action too as well as quite a major death. It’s probably my least favourite premiere but it was good. Bloodhair in the show is a merge of two characters from the books, Sigurd and Harald. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see your opinion on the character as the season develops. He had to retreat there though because he would’ve been killed lol. Alexander Dreymon who plays Uhtred definitely is a lot better this season. His best performance 100%. David Dawson doesn’t need much praise from me anymore because his portrayal of Alfred is just remarkable. Ahh here we go with Skade. Now she’s the character I’m most interested to see your opinion on. Definitely a somewhat divided topic. Not too fond on the actress. I’m not sure how far you are into the season, probably 5/6 right? Aethelred like you said is just a piece of shit. Don’t like him at all. Gisela’s death was emotional. I really liked her and Uhtred together. My favourite is probably Iseult but Gisela was up there too. The only weird thing about Season 3 is that the time jump from the end of Season 2 to beginning of Season 3 was more than 10 years which it doesn’t seem to be at all. Not one character looked aged lol. All in all, a good start to a great season. I can’t wait for more reactions!

Alfred & Ealhswith had 2 children in this show Aethelflead & Edward, but in real life they had 5 children, Aethelflead ,Lady Of The Mercians, Edward The Elder, King of the Anglo - Saxons, Aethelgifu, Abbess of Shaftesbury, Aelfthryth Countess of Flanders, & AEthelweard.

Watching s3 for first time and I can’t friggin believe Uhtred doesn’t get a friggin break with wife’s/spouses/children. Like WTF. Gisela was a great fit for Uhtred. And they better not kill fucking Finan. This new witch is annoying AF. Alfred has been an awesome character and David Dawson (?) is amazing. But I am super interested to see how his son Edward grows into becoming King. And will someone please kill Aethelred already !!!! Great review Sith
