this cover is the best things that's happened to me in a while i think sittin on the dock of the bay is one of those special songs that has endless potential, where it can be covered over and over and not lose its power. there's of course the weightful original by otis redding, the enchant of the staple singers version, the soft countrified version by glenn campbell, the haunting waylon jennings/willie nelson cover, a$ap rocky's soul funk version, sara bareilles' stripped introspective version... the list goes on. every musician who covers this song makes it their own. joseph, you are no exception. it is so undeniably you: raw, soulful, vocally aweful, and emotive in every note (and facial expression). you hear the yearning, the longing, the sehnsucht, and yet! there's a soft joyful undertone beneath it all. thanks for blessing us, man.
