I admittedly had *very* negative impressions from Pokimane based on controversies involving her in the past, but this was just all from the outside looking in and not actually having watched her content. i agree that a lot of people dislike her without knowing her that well. i include myself within that group. i also think that her gender/audience does play in to how she is percieved, however this is out of her control & unfair to judge her on. but i do think there are issues that she has done a bad job of addressing, which has ultimately resulted in her poor reputation. some are honest mistakes (like she said, she isnt perfect, nobody is) but some things are genuinely deserving of at least some backlash imo, such as: - calling out someone's sponsorship (their source of personal income) as a response to them speaking badly about you and your fanbase, no matter how much you disagree with what theyre doing (like they say in the podcast, it was just a bad idea to react to the guy's video live on stream. i think this couldve been avoided if she didnt do that) - dmca striking a video because it had "deleted tweets" in it, as she stated in this podcast (she should not be dmca striking videos for showing deleted tweets. she herself chose to post these tweets; she has no right to complain when other people reference them. the more appropriate response would be for her to address the deleted tweets, discuss why she deleted them, express her feelings on the matter, and move on. dmca striking a video was definitely not the right move here imo) - adhering to the "meta" of watching shows on stream (she is no more guilty of this than the other streamers who did it, like xqc, and i do feel bad that she was the one who got the most backlash for it, but it is still something she should not have done, and the fact she seems to use the excuse of "it was just the meta" is not a good look in my eyes) - reacting to other people's content without permission and often adding nothing of value (this is a subjective thing, particularly the "add nothing of value" part, but out of the many streamers who hopped on the reaction meta i feel like pokimane was one of the ones who added little substance to whatever she was watching, and instead just watched it to pass the time. again, as stated previously, there are multiple big streamers that fall into this group, its just that poki is the one that gets the most backlash for it. i do personally think reaction content is fine, preferrably if you have permission to watch it beforehand, but particularly if you add meaningful discussion to whatever youre watching. if youre watching something without adding anything to it, or just reacting to meme videos or something like that, i think thats not really valid with the "fair use" argument, and thus has contributed to her poor reputation) - a lack of transparency on banning words like "simp", "leafy", etc, and not discussing her rationale on problems such as the ones i mentioned above. i understand that youd want to avoid mentioning some things directly, as it would just cause people to want to talk about them even more, but in the context regarding her current situation, i think its important to be transparent, for the sole reason that it combats the "warped perception" that many people (such as myself) have of her. admittedly, she does talk about this problem in the podcast a little, discussing how the internet will "interpret things however they want" (usually to make her look worse). however i feel like a lack of addressing these things doesnt help her at all. sometimes an apology video (and not just saying "im sorry", but explaining her thought process like she does in the podcast) is the right thing to do. despite these issues, she still has definitely been dealt a bad hand by the twitch community & the internet in general. im unsure as to how much of the blame really falls on her, but regardless, i have certainly come out of this podcast with a much better opinion of her than i had before, even if i do generally dislike her a little still.

@@Epsilonn Just a few comments on your lack of transparency point. Just from like a streamer perspective, if you're just trying to play games and enjoy interacting with chat... you're just going to ban words and move on with the stream so you can make sure people have a good experience while they're there. Like if she's playing valorant or whatever, she's not going to sit there and spend time on the drama. It's not worth the time. Just like it's not worth the time dealing with anyone else not following the rules. Mods just deal with it. You might say she should take some time and make a video, or dedicate some time to talk about banned words... but the times I've seen her or other female streamers explain their rationale for literally anything, it always ends with comments from people claiming she's "milking the drama" or "playing the victim". The longer things drag out... the more it creates more people who have that warped perception. So it's like, would you rather try to address it and have people shit on you for that... creating more people with warped perceptions. Or just ban words and move on and accept that a chunk of people gained that warped perception but not have that group grow. Combine that with the fact that those people with the warped perception, probably weren't people who watched her in the first place. So I can imagine she's like, who cares? If people want to stay they can and change their own minds without her addressing it. All that said, the reality though is that financially she's in a place now where she can simply not care whether or not something helps her. I'd probably do the same thing lol. People get upset? It's just like ok have fun with that lol. Ban some words. Back to valorant.

@@SaberRiryi i would agree that this is how most streamers would and should deal with problems pertaining to their reputation. they shouldnt be jeopardising the enjoyment of their stream just to clear up some drama. but specifically with poki's case, where i would actually go so far as to say a majority of the twitch community/internet has at least some degree of a warped perception of her, it might be worth the time to address things in more detail. not just so that people like her, but so that shes comfortable on the platform, & also acting as a more appreciated female content creator, which would help fix the stereotype of women on twitch (and im pretty sure thats something quite important to her). her discussing this topic doesnt necessarily have to be on a regular basis; that would definitely cause people to complain about her "milking the drama". but some explanations here and there in the proper environments/contexts, similar to the ones given on this podcast episode, would do a lot to fix peoples image of her. i suppose it might be difficult for her to find the proper environments/platforms to talk about topics like that without it feeling forced though, which is probably the biggest problem i can see with her doing this. like she can't just make a bunch of KZbin videos because it would be a little alienating for her audience. but sitting down on a podcast and discussing things in length, like she has done her, is a much better approach for her - and that shows through the fact that im even taking the time to rethink my opinion of her and write this comment. overall, i dont think she can expect to ever be liked by everyone (sadly i think its gone beyond that point, with so many people having a warped perception of her), but i do think there are steps she could take to improve her reputation a lot - particularly with people who would be willing to listen to what she has to say.

I hate to do armchair psychology, but I can't help but shake this feeling. There are so many female streamers out there, why is Poki always the one the tabloids write about? The only thing I can think of, based on Twitch audience, is just a bunch of neckbeard attitude. They see a female streamer, attractive to many, super successful, and promotes women in general. They then go through this thought process: Female streamer/gamer? "Hurr durr a girl, time to be a degen and harass them." Promoting women? "Ew, fuck feminists, this is why I hate women." Getting rich? "A woman I hate is getting money, fuck them." Attractive? "Fuck this thirst baiter." Basically, misogyny, envy, insecurity, and lack of social experience. I don't watch her often, but I found it strange that so much hate she gets compared to other female streamers. Truth is people always want to pull down people who are doing well. Same happened with Ninja at his peak, and afterwards even XQC for awhile. It's just so...sad.

Of course there are some regional accents that are a bit thicker and are subject to some jokes here and there. The stereotypical “aboot” accent is pretty rare these days although it can come out in some situations. Regional accents like Newfy and Quebecois accents are kinda the equivalent of the stereotypical “Southern” Bible Belt accent or the Minnesota accent.

im a big trash taste fan and been watching since episode 1 but i think a big reason trash taste fans are disliking guest episodes more and more as the podcast goes on is every guest episode ends up just discussing being a youtuber or streamer and discussing the two industries for the vast majority of the episode and its getting mundane and boring and beating a dead horse as the show goes on and on compared to just the trash taste boys episodes were its all banter, discussing different topics each episode, telling interesting and captivating stories and light-hearted funny arguments were as guest episodes is just talking about KZbin and twitch every damn time and its getting more and more mundane, yall needa stop talking about being a youtuber and streamer so much which the audience cant relate to. I love trash taste and the boys but its just gotten so mundane with the guest episodes, if yall wana talk about that persons career that's fine but the overwhelming majority are youtubers and streamers and were sick to death of hearing about them yall need more variety and interesting guests such as that Japanese singer who sung btoom opening, that foreign french animator who moved to japan and worked on anime, kaho who worked in the JAV industry etc these are much more entertaining guest episodes and the highlight of guest episodes as we dont usually hear from these people as much and what working in their industry is like in such a deep dive format were as you mostly for 95% of the time just cast youtubers and streamers for guest episodes and it just feels really lazy and has got to the point were saying its beating a dead horse actually feels like a understatement, this is why guest episodes are becoming more and more hated, we need more variety in them. When this podcast first began I felt like I was apart of the boys's conversation and inside jokes, which is why I've been such a big fan for so long since for the longest time it felt so relatable and fun to join in on. But recently I've sensed a change in the general conversation topics; mainly focusing on youtuber and streamer problems, which gets very repetitive with every recent guest coming on talling about the same things. I feel like the podcast would benefit heavily with some further research into the guests and some deeper questions to get the guest to open up (sorta like what Sean Evans does from first we feast) which would perhaps provide some more interesting stories/tangents that viewers can enjoy and relate to more. I still love the podcast, but recently I've just found myself switching it off more frequently. people are memeing about how the boys are trying "not to get cancelled" or whatever but i genuinely think its really cool whenever dudes let a woman talk about women's issues, especially the kind they can actually help stop because of their male audience. like call it whatever you want but i think its helpful and also just cool of them.

Glad that they are the first ever to talk about this and that it isn’t brought up everytime a woman is on a podcast
