For the chicken tikka masala claim - it was believed to be made by a Bengali chef in an Indian restaurant located in Scotland. The dish itself is a slight variation of other Indian curries. Culturally it's south Asian, so calling it a "Scotish dish" is a stretch. Panda Express: created by Chinese chef in America: American food
@ANPC-pi9vu2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, a lot of iconic American foods were created by immigrants adapting to the availability of ingredients in America as well as the palate of their customers if they made a business selling it. Most 'Mexican' food in America is actually 'Tex-Mex' and distinct in many ways from actual Mexican cuisine and street foods. Pizza, Rubin Sandwich, Corn Beef and Cabbage, Spaghetti, Hamburger, Barbeque, and Fried Chicken are all examples of this. So Scottish tikka masala is similar to that and makes complete sense to me as an American.

I did some research following season 2 of The Promised Neverland and learned that a possible reason for the removal of Goldy Pond and everything else revolved around censorship. Apparently kids handling guns was a big no no and the kids are basically armed to the hilt from Goldy Pond onward in the manga. Obviously it’s just a theory, but it would make sense since the kids only used bows and arrows in season 2 where as the mothers did have guns in the final episodes. On an unrelated note The Disastrous Life of Saiki K is really funny and even has a satisfying ending in my expert opinion.

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs. Tbh I don't think I enjoyed Saiki for the humour, I just really liked that he was sort of apathetic to the wacky world around him. Like shit do be kinda wild and he's so fuckin deadpan. You can also kind of see it in Sakamoto, he's got a lot of composure despite all the crazy shit he's doing
@aremayo92622 жыл бұрын
That's like where half the comedy comes from. It was hilarious seeing Saiki be the most normal person in the series, despite his god like status.

Eva and Bokurano are similar in premise and general themes (kids driven to grow up under an obligation to fight giant robots) but I feel they're still distinct. It's been a while since I've watched/read either but when I think of Eva I think more of the idea of vulnerability and acceptance between flawed people in a world that's becoming increasingly interconnected to the point it's overwhelming and desensitizing. (This probably isn't the intended intepretation but when I think of the Third Impact - all of humanity in one big frothing sea of thought and emotions - I think of the Internet. And whenever is see a vitriolic online exchange deescalate because someone was willing to be open and human and vulnerable with someone else I think of that final scene) My recollection of Bokurano on the other hand was more general themes of existentialism and growing up? Making sacrifices and compromises, accepting that you and other people will be hurt in life and that this cycle will go on in perpetuity; all various ideas of these kids entering the real world. Granted I think Evangelion's themes overlap heavily with all of these, but Eva *really* focuses on certain ones - to the point of arguably beating them to death? And as Garnt mentioned, Bokurano makes more of an effort to articulate its ideas, while Eva is really just "laying itself bare". "Getting" Eva isn't a matter of being smart, just being in the right headspace. But for what it's worth I remember way more about Evangelion's themes despite having seen it around the same time as Bokurano and liking both works similar amounts. I absolutely get why Eva doesn't hit a lot of the time, but when it does it can really stick with you. In short, my impression is Bokurano seemed like a more comprehensive examination of mortality/growing up, while Eva fixated on specific aspects (inadequacy, vulnerability, emotional connections). However, again, I consumed both these stories years ago so these are probably just vague recollections at best. I'm sure other commenters will correct me on a lot of this - it might be fun rewatch/reread them soon with this comparison in mind? But at the very least I feel confident in my impression that Bokurano isn't just "Eva but better". Though I do definitely agree that if you're looking for a different approach on a similar premise to Eva's (if you find Eva's approach too repetitive/pretentious/etc.), then Bokurano is a good suggestion. Which is probably what Connor meant anyway.

I don’t really know anything about Bokurano myself (But how you explained it makes me interested to watch it), and I don’t wanna get into using the term “pretentious” because that is a rabbit hole in itself, but the way I see it, Evangelion is one of those shows that really feels like a medium for the artist’s self-expression. It’s incredibly abstract in its presentation a lot of the time, and despite it being my favorite anime, if someone were to come to me and say that this show is absolute dog water, I would completely understand. It’s just one of those shows for me.

Connor's point about explainer videos is interesting, but I think the enjoyment of a thing is still valid - you feel the explanation has deepened your appreciation for something, allowed you a slightly different perspective. Seeing MORE of a thing via someone else's insight is a really human thing to do. It's literally just deepening your critical understanding of things.

1:00:06 Technically it's not racist. It is definitely discrimination though which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed in France. But if 2 french people move to another country and they get a child, but they don't teach that child French, then that child would still not be allowed to get in while a French speaking Asian would be allowed in. So from what is said in the podcast ethnicity doesn't play a role in their discrimination. Therefore it's not racism. Discrimination based on language is often part of racism though, so I wouldn't be surprised if racism is the root of the discrimination. There's an overlap between the two and during a conversation it's very easy to say the technically incorrect word. I just think it's an interesting topic so I felt like rambling a bit about it :)

@xandermantheman62122 жыл бұрын
Yeah it kind of bugged me when they didn't even mention that Japan does the same thing but with actual racism. They'll just straight up deny you entrance because you're not Japanese regardless if you speak the language or not. People just let it slide and say that it's just there "culture" or they'll be "uncomfortable" serving foreigners.

But it is also fairly common for places to not want foreigners because it is difficult to accommodate for foreign speaking individuals. It might not be from any malicious intent.
