Sitting for 5 YEARS!! How Much Will It Take To Get Going?! Yamaha Phazer 2

My buddy wanted to get his old 1995 Yamaha Phaser 2 out of the barn after 5 years and try to get it going again! At first I thought maybe we got lucky and didn't have to clean the carb but after he took it for the weekend we found out that we indeed did have to rip the carbs out!

Good job man! Keep an eye on those rubber motor mounts.Engine is moving a fair bit on the revs.Srv 540 were bad for motor mount wear.I have 95 phazer 2 and doesnt move as much.Typical wear for older sleds.Nice revival!

Thanks! The kids actually somehow broke the cast aluminum engine stop on the case so I’ll be doing another video on it this winter 😂

Looks like you may have a motor mount that's bad, seemed to have a lot of movement even when you took the belt off? Tell tail sign is also how far your belt is sitting down in the secondary. That can also make it doggy if its still that way - for example like your starting in 2rd gear vs 1st in a car. Also set your belt deflection. In those old ones there's I think 2 or 3 shims inside the secondary sheaves - 1 should be removed on a worn belt. That belt should ride high on the secondary, not low. I had a phazer II years ago, was a pretty zippy little thing after putting on an aftermarket (AAEN) pipe. Back in the day i think it added 10-15 hp on the phazers.

You might be on to something because even the new belt sat low in the secondary. I might pull the secondary apart and look at the mounts. The kids have been riding it but I don’t want to burn up the new belt because the primary is working too hard. Thanks!

Yep! you know your Phazers!. Have a look at the carb's butterfly synchronisation; they are very often un-equal, making the engine sound like it's running on one and-a half. The fuel pump's diaphragm is a week spot too, if it in not a transparant Mylar one. If it's brown, change it. Engine rubber mounts Kaputt yep. The chaincase had a drain bolt underneat, aligned with a hole in bellypan.

Yamaha had a TORS system if throttle had too much play it'd dog out after 4grand or so, probably shoulda cleaned the carbies homey..

I did tho 🤔 and it was the carbs. After I cleaned them it ran great!
