I took a 10mm wrench, cut the box end off, welded the box end to another cheap wrench so the box end stuck out more so i could get around the starter. I did bent the wrench a bit to make it easier also. Worked well. I left the bolt off

@ToyShopRestorationsАй бұрын
Uhhhhhh if it’s all together and under tension then yes it’s a big deal because you’re out of time now. But if you have the cams out of it and you’re checking valves and the chain falls off the sprocket then that’s no biggie just make sure your timing marks are all lined up before you finish up!

I just bought a very similar ATV. Runs decent when it wants to. Often idles high which doesn’t let it shift. Sometimes it runs a fine and I can drive it a bit. And sometimes it idles super low and refuses to throttle up. I suppose I’ll clean the carb this Sunday hopefully when I get time. This video was very helpful.

I disagree I have a bunch of machines and a lot of them have Chinese carburetors my son drives a little coaster he's 9 and that little four wheeler goes through more than you would ever think but you got to set it up the right way... But as for the Chinese carburetors yeah every so often you might get one that's bad machined send it back but for the most part they're great the thing that ruins the carburetors is the ethanol and the gas but that will ruin any carburetor
@ToyShopRestorations2 ай бұрын
I’m glad they work for you! I personally steer away from machines for sale on marketplace that don’t have an original carb. Also the gas will ruin carbs if left for many many years. Other than that they’re just a little dirty and can be easily cleaned. I just tell everyone if you’re gonna replace it then please just keep the original one and if you ever sell the machine give the original one to the next guy
@briankirchmeyer4557Ай бұрын
Most people think it's one size fits all and you can buy a carburetor and just slap it on it doesn't work like that half the time... You already know elevation jetting... All the caboodles...haha.. but I'll be honest man a lot of these knock off mikuni's work great pwks nibbies great carburetors

I have to do the same engine because it won't shift right. It was running in second gear and just went into "neutral" and is now stuck between second and third gear. Won't shift up to four, and won't shift all the way down to neutral so can't start the engine either
@ToyShopRestorations2 ай бұрын
Is the forward/reverse lever not engaged?
@Viralvid20242 ай бұрын
@@ToyShopRestorations the forward/reverse lever was definitely tough to shift, but in this case I was riding slow in second gear and it just lost connection to the gears all together and ended up in false neutral. I wasn't in the middle of shifting, I was just on the throttle moving forward in second when something let go. I shut it down, and tried to downshift to restart it but couldn't get it to shift down to get the green neutral light to come on. I actually just pulled the motor yesterday and have the parts carefully organized in small groups, and don't see anything wrong or damaged in the left side where the middle gear is now exposed or the right side where the shift mechanism is. I'm now at the point where it's time to split the case but hesitant and still trying to determine if it's got anything to do with either side where I'm at now. When I try to shift it now and listen, I can hear the two gears shift up and down in the middle of the case and then silence as if whatever gears are affected are completely unattached because there's no grinding or junk rattling. No obvious metal shavings or chunks anywhere either, including in the oil that came out. Prior to this happening, I did hear a faint rattle (an occasional knock) somewhere in the case when it was running in neutral that wasn't in the top end, and may have been something in the gears near neutral, 1st, and second that almost sounded like something was loose. Any of that make any sense? I figured I'd ask you since you spent some serious time inside that engine and the diagrams both coming apart and going back together. Excellent job on this entire project by the way! I was extremely impressed with the level of detail and problem solving you put into it!
@Viralvid20242 ай бұрын
@@ToyShopRestorations also, the forward/reverse lever was engaged in forward because I was moving in second gear, and I assume it's still engaged because I can't get it to shift down to first and can't move the forward/reverse lever so it must still be engaged and working ok.
@Viralvid20242 ай бұрын
@@ToyShopRestorations i figured it out today after tearing the whole motor apart and didn't need to 😂 it was the shift mechanism. It popped off the two spring type prongs that come up on either side of the shaft closest to the outside of the case. It was so simple and I looked at that too and thought "nah, can't be that thing" and kept tearing it down until today I was trying to shift it to look at it to see what it was doing and I pushed the shift lever out by accident and when I put it back in I ended up snapping those prongs in and low and behold it shifts up and down through all the gears! Lesson learned, and I'm still inspired by your rebuild so I'm going to at least do the top end while I'm in there and already have the new parts sitting on a shelf, and will paint the frame
@Viralvid20242 ай бұрын
Where do you get your diagrams from to put them back together? I have to do the same engine now. Also, this engine was working fine and while running in second gear it just popped into "neutral" and kept running but wouldn't move, and won't downshift into actual neutral to allow the engine to start. Any idea what might have happened? I took the oil fill side off already and nothing is damaged there, shift mechanism is together and only shifting between 2-3 I think but won't go up or down from there so I think I have to pull it all apart and split the case. Uggg
