Situation Along LAC Stable But Not Normal: Northern Army Commander

UDHAMPUR, J&K: More than three and a half years after the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh began, the “situation is stable but sensitive and not normal,” says Northern Army Commander Lt Gen. Upendra Dwivedi. In the first of our ground reports in our series, 'The Himalayan Frontier', in this exclusive interview with StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale at the Northern Command headquarters, he said of the seven friction points, five have been resolved and there’s a need to re-establish trust. Engagement is on at various levels, including between the commanding officers so that localized issues can be sorted out, he added. Tune in for more.

Thanks to Nitin Gokhale for an interesting discussion with General Dwivedi on the status and challenges both on the Jammu & Kashmir border with Pakistan, as well as on the eastern Ladakh border with China. Very assuring to hear from Gen. Dwivedi that both the military preparedness and pre-emptive operations, as well as public support among the local population, along the Jammu-Kashmir border is robust, notwithstanding sporadic terrorist violence. It was also good to know that active efforts are being made on the Indian side to engage with the Chinese counterparts in negotiations, regarding positions of control along the LAC. No doubt it is a painstaking task, as also mentioned in the past, by EAM S. Jaishankar ( that the Chinese side does not adhere to agreed protocol and positions). This was echoed by Gen Dwivedi in this discussion. But it is assuring that at the same time, border infrastructure and provisions for a bigger force strength on the Indian side are rapidly progressing. One must also compliment the locale of the discussions with the backdrop of distant mountains and choppers in view! Great optics for the Northern Command!

To be ready for a Two front war, Indian Army must divide the Northern Command into three parts...viz.... The Northern Command (For Siachen and Snowy Difficult Terrain) The North Western Command (For Pakistan Border) The North Eastern Command ( For Chinese Border) This will ease the pressure from a Single Northern Command.

Can the indian army patrols patrol pts 13,14,15 at depsang plains. It was reported the chinese had occupied mountain heights overlooking the DBO road being constructed. MMS slept while Pakistan decided to let China into PoK++, so India will be forced to deal with China and not Pakistan. But, have faith. Jaishankar has released two books. Please read them. Unpopular Opinion - This “Lead from the front” is actually an outdated concept, more relevant till the 20th century battlefields. We know how many great officers of the Indian army have laid down their precious lives fighting these unlimited cannon fodder terrorists abiding by the stupid doctrine of leading from front, who otherwise would have lived had we been a bit more innovative.
