FRANCE 24 spoke to Abdalla Hamdok, who served as Sudan's prime minister twice after the fall of Omar al-Bashir in 2019. As the war in his country entered its second year, the former premier described the situation as "extremely catastrophic, probably the most serious, disastrous situation in the world today". Yet he expressed hope that the war "will come to an end", noting "some progress" in regional and national efforts towards a political solution.

As someone from Sudan deeply affected by the conflict, I find it noteworthy to observe the disparities in global reactions to different crises. It is apparent that intra-Muslim conflicts receive less attention compared to other international incidents. For instance, the situation in Gaza often garners immediate global concern and substantial humanitarian support, even though the impact of the war in Sudan has been considerably more extensive in terms of the number of people affected. This observation raises important questions about the factors that influence the international community’s response to various humanitarian issues.
