It's not true that South Korea is divided regarding the martial law situation. The majority of people oppose it and want the president to step down.

Democracy dies when no one cares, so a big shoutout to the protesters for staying calm and peaceful and fighting for a healthy democracy. In my opinion this is not about which side you are on. This is the time everybody should be on the same page, because this situation is not something that should or can be discussed within a democratic spectrum. If you care about democracy and the rule of law the presidents actions undoubtedly can not be excused. It really is that simple, don't let them gaslight you.

I really am glad I found your channel bc I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on Korean life. That said, I completely understand you not wanting to voice your opinions on the current political climate in your country. It does go a long way in showing just the facts which we do seldom see and allowing others to think about the totality of an issue before deciding thoughts. It has become such a volatile situation here in the US that for me and my family we no longer voice our opinions, even tho we have free speech, it has simply become that untenable to keep relationships with friends we've had for many years bc some have such harsh opinions they no longer allow for someone to have a differing opinion before they cut you out of their life. So we don't talk about politics or religion/faith anymore. People are completely divided so much so now that no one allows for each other's opinions to be heard and allowed. It's all very sad. Bc no matter where we live on this planet. We all just want the same thing. To have a job that supports us to enjoy life and pursue happiness. To live and be able to travel and enjoy time with family and friends making good memories along the way (and enjoying great foods as well☺️). So please know, that we (at least my family) wish you all the best in South Korea. It looks so beautiful there and we would love to visit one day and take in all the beautiful landscape (we love to hike), architecture, history and foods that South Korea has to offer. Before travelling we always study the culture and customs so we will be prepared and respectful of the country and their ppl. And over the years we've been blessed to get to travel to different countries and meet some amazing people along the way. Some we have stayed in contact with for many years now and have become like family. So be blessed and good luck and I want to wish you and your fiancé a lifetime of happiness (my husband and I are getting ready to celebrate 28yrs of marriage together at the end of December). Keep the wonderful videos coming. Again I appreciate all you do in bringing Korean daily life awareness for those of us around the world!

The frightening part is how arbitrarily the President was able to declare martial law and have the military back him up. He bypassed parliament unconstitutionally. Basically, what a dictator would sue to stage a coupe. Scary stuff.

Hello Average Korean Man.🙂 Good morning for you and dinner time for me. Yes, doing things overnight is becoming a common thing in politics these days, unfortunately. I really hope you can reject as people this martial law, because we all know what comes with and after that...total loss of freedom. I hope you can solve your internal situation for the best.😊

Thank You!! Very nice presentation. I was glued to KZbin Tuesday (our morning, your evening). I believe Yoon Suk-yeol declared Martial law at 22:35 KST, Watching from the USA, i got a sense of how others must have felt watching what happened here Jan 6th, 2021. Very TENSE. And you are praying that everything will be okay. Things in the world are so unstable & we arent playing by rules of decency any more. When something happens in any quadrant to upset stability in that part of the world, everyone braces for possible worst-case scenarios. Grateful for the response by South Korean citizens. Martial Law is only declared in cases of emergency. EVEN IF there had been an attack, it isnt necessary to declare Martial Law.

Hello from Arizona,USA, I will be praying for South Korea as I have a very good friend from there and so I do care about the South Korean country. Please be aware that there is another possibility of a martial and how will you be prepared for food, water, currency, medicine, soap, toiletries, abd so on. Please don't get comfortable until you have gathered emergency and essential items for you and your family. Reminds me of the covid shut downs. 😢

Wise ADVISE. Please prepare all you can just in case. I watched a MILITARY COUPE when I was in elementary school. I remember coming home to watch the military take hostages and people were killed in this COUNTRY. I won’t forget that TRAGIC event even though I was 10 at the time. I prayed for the hostages back then. I recall a surprising religious leader flew there and negotiated their release. I always admired him for that.

Unfortunately, there are more risks to democracy nowadays. Today we can for instance read in the news that in Romania (a member of the EU) their Constitutional Court had to annul the first round of voting in the ongoing presidential elections. Because of allegations of Russia's interference, "aggressive Russian hybrid attacks", especially via social media, into the first round of voting. Romania, like other EU countries, is also the NATO member (and there is going to be a new NATO base soon in Romania). So one cannot nowadays be really sure where various things start and who is really meddling in what and how. It's good to watch, with own critical attitude, various news and sources of information. And to learn about the world more, to be able to understand better what's going on in various regions, what are the risks and potential connections between them.

Imagine Ukrainian (of mostly Russian descent) coal miners in the Donbas region in late 2013. While they were working in the mine, Kiev government announced that Russian language is now banned (and other ridiculousness.) They come out - and surprise-surprise. This was the start of the conflict we are witnessing today.

I live in America and I’ve been trying to keep up with it a little bit, but I’m confused of why he did it in the first place. People said it had something to do with the handbag situation with his wife. I don’t see why that situation was a big deal, but maybe it’s a culture thing that I don’t understand. But still yet I don’t even see that being a reason why he would call martial law so the whole thing is confusing to me.

I see a comforting absence of disfunction in South Korea, with an orderly political process, and both sides condemning the President's actions. Of course there are hardliners and those loyal to the President, but they seem to be small in number and those in power are not arguing that the President was in the right to call for martial law. Most seem to recognize that the President's actions were in gross violation of political norms. I hope his removal, whether voluntary or through impeachment, is a peaceful, constitutional process. Frankly, I wish we had this sort of condemnation of Trump in January of 2021.

Seriously, S. Koreans shouldn’t be concerned or be mad at their president. They should thank him for exposing the mediocre and pathetic S. Korean military. They had one job, secured an empty building. They couldn’t even do that or preventing a bunch of unarmed and corrupt communist law makers from entering the building. The people who should really be concerned are the Americans, who can conceivably be dying to protect this pathetic country next year. If S. Koreans think this is a win, they had no idea they’ve just gave N. Korea 190 reasons to invade SK now.

Staying neutral when a leader is sending in military to take over is below average where I come from. Good luck being a cog in the wheel. Enjoy the ride.
@lindae7013Ай бұрын
I believe in this case “ staying neutral “ is because this is a public platform and as such is monitored. Martial law, even though it was resisted and rejected does not mean it can’t or won’t happen again, can be used to compile an enemy of the state list. So being careful about what you post online is prudent behavior
