Yes, that did indeed happen. I did practice exiting spirals quite a lot afterwards.

Interesting. Over trees I imagine you'd cut the wing away and focus on the landing more. This is a great example to help imagine doing it. Thanks!

A little tip your SIV instructor may or may not have debriefed you on......Never hold your riser when dealing with an issue (actively stopping a twist is an exception ). This stops any abilty to actively fly the glider. The only time its a good idea is when testing gliders to stop the natural tendancy of an experianced pilot making a correction input, so that the zero control input characteristics can be observed. Keep at it and you will be able to fly the stall as a normal manouver :) At 3:24 you had quite a good tail slide to recover from. If you had placed your hands full up at this moment and then caught the realitvley small surge that would have occurred I think you would have ben fine. As to the strong balloon up which led to the next cascade, apply as much brake as needed to prevent a collapse even if it is a very deep input. As long as the deep input is not held too long all will be well. I know, easy to say when you know how much is enough :) but its often alot more than most folks learning SIV think is needed. My hand was on the handle about half a second before he told me to. The moment I saw how my wing was cliped by the lines, I knew I couldn't recover from that.
