Excellent video as always. I have been thinking about paragliding for years, and I did my first ever tandem in Slovenia in September with a very skilled pilot. That was amazing. I was not scared for a second - just enjoying the very short 30 minutes in the air :-) I am approaching 62, but I really would like to try this out. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Norway

Wow. Such an engaging and interesting video. I was captivated the whole time. I am just coming to the end of my Brevet course in paragliding and looking at next steps. I appreciate so much the uncut nature of this video, it was super interesting and big kudos to the guys. Loved the landing with the cravat, and the accidental reserve deployment!

Very well made video and extremely instructional, it should be the law to watch before even starting to paraglide. I started end marts and is now working to finish level 4 with a combination of ridge soaring, combined with winch launch and boat launches. SIV is definately up, at the latest spring 2023

From experience - if you are conscious, and have an inflatable life-jacket, inflate it just before you hit the water. Saves waiting for the delay of the water-activated inflation, which can also save you several panicky seconds when your harness is forcing you face down. Also reduces chance of getting tangled in your lines, when you flip back up after life-jacket auto-inflates.

Very interesting. Probably not the worst thing to have happen during an SIV, a couple of surprises. He knows he can get down on a reserve now, and he knows losing a bit of wing isn't the end of the world. I've heard of people getting themselves completely hosed trying to free relatively minor problems like he had, when they could have just flown them down, as he did. Would be wonderful to have a very competent trainer (as this guy obviously is) talking you through something like that, ESPECIALLY the first time.

Quick question...what's SIV mean?
@AviationSports19784 жыл бұрын
Christopher Leveck it’s french for simulation incident vol look it up
@christopherleveck68354 жыл бұрын
@@AviationSports1978 yeah thanks actually I speak French. I was curious to see if a guy who could see the value of and recognize someone else for being a great instructor and would go out of his way to tell him he inspired him to learn would also help to inspire others or would he flame somebody for asking him a question? I guess now I know. I've been flying since I was 14 years old I started in gliders. I've flown everything I could get my hands on for the last 35 years. I've asked a lot of dumb questions I've answered a lot of dumb questions you never know when your answer is going to save somebody's life. Maybe it's just my experience, but the paragliding community, of all the flying groups I've associated with, has been the least friendly and most guarded group of aviators I've spent time with. BTW- SIV stands for Simulated Incidents in Flight?! You knew it was in French, and so you must have known that somebody might have a hard time looking for it. That's why I asked. Went through all the time to type what you did and say Google it. But even knowing somebody might have a problem you didn't give them the tip they needed to easily find the information, you just said "Google it" What a jerk. You could have said "SIV is French try Googling Simulated Incident in Flight". Would have taken a lot less time and you could have been a really nice guy. But I can tell you from experience instructors really love a brown noser.

I am not a paraglider pilot, but am PPSEL. I really enjoyed watching the various evolutions the pilots executed. I can only imagine how much having the instructor in your ear walking you through the maneuvers helped the learning experience. The line over landing was especially impressive, not only for the calmness of the instructor but the pilot's ability to work through the emergency and safely land. Being a former sailor I like to use the term "Bravo Zulu" the signal sent for a job well done and this video certainly was a job well done!!

At 13.10 the guy induces the collapse with his hands out the brakes. Was this his choice or is that how you guys instruct him to do it. I can see the benefit of not applying brakes as he pulls the collapse but surely he has no chance of catching the surge .
@passionparagliding39944 жыл бұрын
Hi John. These are obviously simulated collapses. We generally find that collapses pulled without brakes are closer to real life collapses, cleaner and easier to pull. *With a full frontal collapse it is important that the pilot DOES NOT catch the dive*. This is because the wing is recovering from a non-flying situation (full frontal - sometimes called front stall). Catching the dive could very easily result in stalling the wing! Normally when flying we should catch a diving wing. I hope that makes sense.
