The small port village of Sivota is situated on the northwest coastline of mainland Epirus, 22 kilometres away from the International harbour City of Igoumenitsa, 39 kilometres away from the town of Parga and opposite the south tip of Corfu island, the tip of Asprokavos, separated by a narrow channel of 4 nautical miles. Surrounding Sivota are four small Islands, which you pass as you enter the bay.As most of the coastline of mainland Greece, the green vegetation of Sivota tries to reach the Ionian Sea, which is often separated by small sandy strips. In Sivota, there are several amazing small beaches like Zeri, Galikos Ormos, Bella Vraka, Zavia and the exotic bay of “Pishina”, where a part of the famous film “Blue Lagoon” was filmed. Sivota’s coast has become famous worldwide for windsurfers as you can windsurf all year round there.
HISTORY
Outside of Sivota’s port in the Ionian Sea between Paxos and Antipaxos islands in the year of 432 BC, the biggest naval battle of that period took place. The battle between two Greek states, the Corcyrians and the Corinthians. 70 Corcyrians and 30 Corinthians triremes sank in the sea, the wrecks are still there today.In the bay of Sivota, historians say that Arabian pirates used to moor their ships there in the Middle Ages, either to relax or hide before and after their numerous attacks on Corfu.
