They owned the park since 2002. The park never went into the black, in addition engineers only found 20% of the park salvageable post Katrina. To top that, the insurance claim filed for the damage was not even paid in full for them to restore it for just resale. For a company that was on the verge of bankruptcy during that time, it made since to let it go.

It's sad that somebody hasn't bought that old Six Flags theme park and completely renovated it and brought it back to life, you would think some group would buy it and totally revamp it and bring it back to life.

A fantastically eerie place! - Just so sad that it is left decaying into nothing but a remote and forgotten memory. Will the US government make some purposeful use of it? - It amazes me that such a waste-land can be left full of rides and buildings that could easily be destroyed.

It's probably more like Six Flags is using this as an excuse to get out of the lease. I've seen Adam the Woo's video of the place and it doesn't look that badly damaged. They shut down Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville which was also on leased land when they couldn't get the state of Kentucky to lower their lease payments. It was another formerly independent park that they had snatched up.

JAZZLAND! I MISS YOU SO MUCH! I had my 8th birthday party there! I remember going down the slides in 4:00! I remember riding the Mega Zeph for the first time! I remember being too scared to ride the Jester coaster, but now I'll never get the chance to try again! Oh, now I have to go all the way to Blue Bayou, BUT I'LL ALWAYS LOVE YOU JAZZLAND! And now there are plans to demolish you and make you into a strip mall. Even if you'll never return, I'll always remember you as my favorite theme park.

@britbratbrownie121 Actually, they didn't reopen because after the storm, the insurance money wouldn't pay for most of the damages. This park didn't make a ton of money, so they didn't bother putting up the money to fix the damage.

That's untrue. I am from New Orleans so i was raised around Hurricanes. Hurricane Katriana was like no other storm that has hit New Orleans in recent history. Most hurricanes are minor and cause very little damage. We have one about every year and everything is fine as long as you have good insurance. A park like that could stand up to any normal hurricane with no problem. I would think the chances of having another storm like Katrina hit the New Orleans area in this lifetime is slim

All of this happened because of Hurricane Katrina, the park's drainage system failed and was abandoned from 2005 to 2012 were taken Batman ridller attractions and more of the park the park is not reopened because of problems with the insurer and the park remained abandoned no intention of reopening!

JiggidyNDG Many attempts have been planned, but never became true. Katrina has made this a lost cause for Six Flags. So sad to see a place of joy and laughter of children and adults turn into a dark and sad place of childhood memories left behind. Hope things can get better, but I question it James....Six Flags has no interest in buying it again, the hurricanes damage has become too superior. 😢🥺

@andreylandia Six Flags Sold it to the City of New Orleans Nickolodian was about to buy it But backed out because the Company Southern Star Amusements never applied for the Bonds. Its now on Auction to be purchased by an investment Company to open a State of the Art Mall and Amusement Park with With water rides they are currently in Negotiations!!!!

are you serious? the insurance money would never cover the damages on all the rides, it would cost around 100m-200m just to get shit cleaned up, six flags had to close the park or the would have been so boned financially. The city of new orleans is tearing it down soon, only keeping mega zef and they are building a giant shopping mall called jazzland (tribute to the park).
