About World's Deadliest:
World’s Deadliest Predators is a new series that looks at most riveting moments of animal predation, breaking down the struggle for survival and supremacy into five action-packed episodes. Top Hunters focuses on the most feared animals in their class: animals at the top of their food chain; the hunters who are prey to no other animal. Killer Packs illustrates when predators multiply their advantage over prey by banding with others of their species to hunt. Lethal Weapons shows that the physical attributes and built-in concealed weapons have the ability to make an animal a top predator. Our Superpowers episode focuses on the animals that see, hear, and smell better than any others…and that relative to their size on are the fastest and strongest creatures on the planet. And whether it is over food, territory or sex, animals go to war within their species and against other species…Battles dissects these conflicts, from the strategy to the play-by-play. These five episodes bring together dozens of species, which are extraordinary, savage, and the World’s Deadliest Predators.

Thor was practicing with his hammer in his room one day(lifting it up in front of the mirror, looking cool, etc.), when suddenly Loki slammed the door open! Thor was so surprised, he pointed his hammer at Loki and shot a lightning bolt right at him! Lucky Loki dodged the attack, sending the bolt flying to his fish tank instead. Thus, the electric eel came to be, and the birth of angsty Loki was born. All this, because Loki decided not to knock before telling Thor that it was dinnertime.

It has organs that function like chemical capacitors. The organs contain a large amount of electrolytes, all arranged in stacks of tissue layers (kind of like an onion). The electrolytes carry a charge, either positive or negative, and in order to "charge" the organs the eel will separate the positive and negative across the layers. When it needs to send out a jolt, ion channels in the layers of the organ open up allowing electrolytes to quickly flow and mix, which generates an electric field.

The electricity would still have to go through the water until it reached the electrodes in the tank to take a wire somewhere, problem is (impure) water is a terrible conducter also the water i guess would heat up due to it having to "transport" the electricity but idk if it would get so hot for the eels to be uncomfortable also the eels need to habe a threat for them to discharge and i wouldn't like it having to live in fear in a tank for the rest of life

MC R-Techz electric eels are one of those animals where you look at it and think, "why?" i mean it doesnt need this overkill defense mechanism... its a slimy slippy elusive eel. not like anything is trying to eat it, but Noooo its has to go and evolve and develop an ability that is almost thunder conjuring magic. Why do they always talk about volt, never about the watt, or even better, the amp. With low enough amounts of energy, volt doesn't really count for much, if the watt can't cover it.
@Nobodyrocked
@Nobodyrocked 10 жыл бұрын
If your talking about DC current, amp and power depend upon the voltage and the resistance of the target. A battery can only produce certain amount of voltage but can produce a wide range of amp.

think of it like this. Volts is the push. Amps is the grunt. Of course you could grab 1000v but depending on where is the deadly part. 300ma on your heat would stop it. I beileve on your hands it would take a bit more. Wet parts like your tounge, or mouth- not very much and you'd be crispy.
@rayoki1
@rayoki1 9 жыл бұрын
A better explanation would be volts is the push, and amps depends on the circuit. It's like a bird on a power line. The voltage is still there, the current isn't unless the circuit is complete. Once the circuit is completes current is 100% dependent on the resistance in the circuit and the voltage pushing the current. Thus current=voltage divided by resistance.

thats incredible, how do they generate the electric potential? And does the current flow into them or out of them?
@philosophyfrog2653
@philosophyfrog2653 2 жыл бұрын
The current flow through the eel. Most of the electric eels’ organs are located in a very small region anterior to their tails. When they are charging up, they stiffen their body into a line segment to avoid the current passing through their heart. The electric eel generates large electric currents with the help of highly specialized nervous systems that has the capacity to synchronize the activity of disc-shaped, electricity-producing cells packed into a specialized electric organ. The nervous system does this through a command nucleus that decides when the electric organ will fire. When the command is given, a complex array of nerves makes sure that the thousands of cells activate all at the same time. Each electrogenic cell carries a negative charge of a little less than 100 millivolts on its outside compared to its inside. When the command signal arrives, the nerve terminal releases a minute puff of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. This creates a transient path with low electrical resistance connecting the inside and the outside of one side of the cell. Thus, each cell behaves like a battery with the activated side carrying a negative charge and the opposite side a positive one.

To everyone asking, the eel does not kill other fish when it shocks one fish because it doesn't have enough amps. Volts is what kills you. Amps is the range. The more amps the further the electricity would go. But since it has a very low amperage it doesn't go far

@timhowell6929
@timhowell6929 Жыл бұрын
No, voltage does not kill, it is just a potential difference like water pressure differential. Amperage is the number of coulombs (electrons) moving per second. A higher amperage is more lethal than a lower one. For a given resistance, a higher voltage will create a higher amperage (ohms law) but it’s the current flow itself that causes tissue damage.

Snipercube It's kind of scary. But the piranhas and the "Candiru" a small fish that can get into a man's body through the penis scare us a hell lot more than the poraque. The Candiru enters your body and starts eating you from inside. One must go through a surgery to get it removed. It's horrible.

Kawaiiness Glory That was probably a bad idea, unless you live in south America. These fish have certain environmental requirements, just releasing one into a random river is bad for the fish and any other native wildlife. You are lucky it was only one electric eel, don't make that mistake again, look what happened with the burmese python when people released those into the wild

Absolutely incredible, Surely, science must be able to learn how to generate electricity without relying on fossil fuel or nuclear power, just by studying this animal. Either that, or everybody has one for a pet, just hook its tank up to the electrical grid in your house, problem solved! But I’d be careful cleaning the tank!

Well.. Its consuming food and turning it into power.. So it isn't really green. They basically have thousands of cells that produce only a small amount of power. Like 0.15 Volts. But those cells are connected im parallel. So the voltage adds up upon firing.

@OfficeThug

The electric field instantly and abruptly leads to the generation of an electric current through ionization of nearby water and fish (the shocky part). Think of it like an invisible lightning bolt that extends from the eel's skin surface. The shock is brief, but most of the eel's body is made up of its electric organs (up to 4/5ths!!). So the shock it can generate is quite large, potential-wise and current-wise, not enough to kill an adult human but more than enough to kill small fish instantly.
