How did you arrive at 1 in 10313? I did ((((47 choose 5) -3)*4)+ 6)/(52 choose 10). 6 being for the case where you draw 2 royal flushes (wouldnt make that much of a difference anyway). This gives an answer of 1 in 2500 roughly. For an 8 card draw the 10000 range is correct i think.
@TisvlyАй бұрын
It was over a month ago, but I think what I did was using the nCr function I took 47 and 5 to get 1.533939e6 and added 4 for the possible 10 card hands containing a royal flush. Then using nCr again with 52 and 10 to get 1.582002422e10 for all possible 10 card hands. I then divided to get that 1 in 10313 number. The reason I did it this way was because I couldn’t find much on the internet on calculating poker hands outside of the traditional formats so I took the formula on the ‘Poker probability’ Wikipedia page where they calculate the odds of drawing a five card royal flush as nCr 52 and 5 = 2598960, and then divided by 4 for one in 649740 odds. So I took that and tried to make it work with 10 card draw. It was a lot of fun to try to figure all that out when I was putting this video together, as I hadn’t used a scientific calculator since college. I thought I had figured it out at the time, but I trust your judgment, as I’m not an expert. I didn’t think about it too much at the time when I was just putting together the clips for fun, if I knew crazy amounts of people would watch and I’d be unknowingly misinforming them I would’ve stayed in my lane and not added any math context to the video, so I do genuinely apologize for that.
@vedantl155Ай бұрын
@ Ah no worries! I was just wondering where the figure came from and the effort of doing all of that to add a statistic for a few seconds in the video is extremely commendable. Thank you for replying as well!
@quaby5308Ай бұрын
A more in-depth explanation (I misread vedantl155's comment and I've already finished writing my explanation by the time I came back to read it again...) : First, to get the number of possible hands containing a royal flush, we multiply (47 choose 5) by 4. This is because each of the 4 possible royal flushes (one of each suit), you have (47 choose 5) ways to choose the remaining 5 cards (out of the remaining 52-5=47 cards in the deck). Second, note that this multiplication results in multiple countings of the same hand, since a hand containing two royal flushes in possible. To better understand the reason double counting is possible, consider the following ways of choosing the same hand: 1. Choosing the royal flush to be of diamonds and the remaining 5 chosen cards will happen to be a royal flush of clubs. 2. Choosing the royal flush to be of clubs and the remaining 5 chosen cards will happen to be a royal flush of diamonds. These two hands are the same, even though we chose them in two different ways. In order to cancel those double countings, we need to subtract the number of hands counted twice from the total number of hands containing a royal flush we calculated in the first step. Since there are 4 ways of making a royal flush (one for each suit), then there are (4 choose 2)=6 possible hands containing two royal flushes (meaning there are 6 duplications in our counting). Therefore, we need to subtract 6 from the number of hands containing a royal flush calculated in the first step. Third, we want to calculate the number of possible hands, since the probability of drawing a royal flush is ratio between the number of hands containing a royal flush and the total number of possible hands. Since there are 52 cards in the deck, then there are (52 choose 10) possible hands of 10 cards. In conclusion, the total number of possible hands of 10 cards containing a royal flush is: (4*(47 choose 5)-6) / (52 choose 10), which is approximately 1 in 2578.

Ive never played this, so can someone explain why he doesn't put the mime all the way on the right? Seems like it logically would be the best place to put it
@TisvlyАй бұрын
No problem, the mime is a bit of special card in that it's positioning in the joker order doesn't matter because it gets activated when card 'held in hand' abilities get activated. Since Steel cards get activated in hand, before the other jokers do, the mime can be in any place unlike the XMult Throwback joker which does do its best at the right end so that the 'flat mult' from the Bootstraps Joker gets multiplied. I hope this was the information you were looking for!

Idk why there is librarian hate, this channel does a great job editing but if you’re looking for gameplay, why are you looking at librarians channel? It is clear he focuses more on the banter and if that’s not for you that all good brother. I prefer the banter and anecdotes, which is why I stopped watching NL’s main channel when the Isaac drip dried out and was replaced with vods. But when I found librarian and it was just pure banter I was immediately hooked. This guy still edits some banter yet still provides an entertaining experience while focusing on gameplay. Yet sometimes librarian still focuses on gameplay, like with rumbleverse. I kind of rambled on but TLDR: we are all here for NL, why do we have to tear each other apart for enjoying the many different aspects his content? As he would probably say “we’re all on the same rock floating in an empty void. Might as well get along with one another”

Balatro nerds, is there some weird thing going on with the wheel of fortune chances? I know, I know anecdotal evidence and whatnot but in my 35+ hours playing balatro and wining with all but 1 decks on easiest difficulty I have only seen it trigger 5 times. I started writing down when it did after doing runs with red and blue decks and it not triggering 10 times in a row in a pogged tarot run.
@Tisvly18 күн бұрын
I might be wrong, but I believe what's happening is not that each Wheel of Fortune is a 1/4 chance, but that all Wheel of Fortune results are predetermined by the seed for each card. So, while it truly is 1/4 across a large enough sample size - it is possible to get really unlucky seeds where the ten cards you get are 10 Nopes in a row, or you can find seeds for routing where you can plan around getting 4 Polychromes in a row from specific Wheel of Fortune cards. I hope this is the knowledge you were looking for!

@Tisvly oh wow that makes sense! thanks!

Only needing 2 cards to make a straight wouldn’t be that great, unless you also have the joker which makes every card score. Only scoring with 2 cards would be pretty low scoring.
