Being an electrician,, I think you should change power supplies... The 10 amp to the 6 qt,, and 6 amp to the 3qt ,,,, the higher ampacity will burn the NEW power supply quicker under larger load,... this way you can process at a higher voltage for quicker crystal growth,,,,, happy processing,,

Those old HP power supplies are very reliable, and they can be run up to 6 A without concern, the voltage will drop automatically when it gets there.
@varno
@varno 7 ай бұрын
@matthicks203 they really are, keysight still has the manuals for these on their website (HP electrical test became agilent electrical test became keysight) and made them as recently as 15ish years ago. Legendarily reliable and reparable, if not super efficient due to their linear design. I would generally trust these to operate at their design load for years at a time so long as you follow the datasheet requirements. The next step up is probably the hp 6651A, which is 50A at 0-8V. Maybee a bit overkill, but you could run a huge cell with that and they are not too expensive on ebay at the moment.

I wish I could run my hands through that dish with the elemental silver and just crunch it around and watch it shimmer, but I think that might be a bad idea 😂 I remember when I was ten and the lord of the rings movie came out, I asked my grandpa to buy me the ring in silver from a merch catalogue. It was my first piece of jewellery and I'll never forget how otherworldy that silver ring looked to me. Silver really looks like it was made by the elves.

Any suggestions on a fume hood? Safety first Sreetips, you should always preheat your crucible to make sure there is no moisture in it. Humidity from the air might collect in the crucible. This eliminates the chance of a steam explosion with a charged crucible. You should also glue the black lid to the 5 gallon bucket lid. You don't want the chance of contamination of the electrolyte when changing clogged filters and adding more electrolyte. This cell is fully covered unlike your 3.5L cells.

@@sreetipsthanks Sreetips, you should preheat your crucible. Moisture might build up in the crucible from humidity in the air. This eliminates the chance of a steam explosion with a charged crucible and you should think about gluing the two lids together. To limit dust contamination in the electrolyte when you change out clogged filters and add more electrolyte or avoid any slip mishap. I noticed this lid is a full lid unlike your 3.5L cells so removing the lid completely will be more common on this silver cell. I added the safety tips after watching your video and you had already replied. Another great video and I was surprised you didn't have a 3rd power supply.

I predict you'll have to switch power supply. When the cristals will grow and you will refill the filter, your current will crank up more as the gap between the anode and cathode reduces (even if the filter fills up with gunk, it's so much bigger I think you haven't reached max current yet). Also very interesting DIY project. The only thing that "annoys" me is how the filter is loose in the basket. I wonder if you do a race between 2 small cells VS 1 big cell who'll process silver the fastest. I know maintaining 1cell is easier so it's not only a metter of speed, but just curious. :)

You used to have a slot to peer through, which is not possible on this setup. Do you need to set up two small windows? One for a light (say at the back) and another (larger) on the front to look in (and video through). Tape clear plastic to the white lid to seal against dust and then cover again with the black lid to keep a neat appearance. Then you can look into the cell just by positioning a light. Great videos as always. Any chance of seeing Mrs. Sreetips going shopping for gold and silver?

Looking forward to a great harvest. I just pulled this from the Hp E3614A manual concerning Overload protection. “A continuously acting constant current circuit protects the powersupply for all overloads including a direct short placed across theterminals in constant voltage operation.” It’s made to run at 6 amps if needed, especially with the good ventilation you have there. I wouldn’t trust the other 10 amp supply you have to run at 6 amps continuously.

This is a great walkthrough, sreetips. Very fun to watch. I didn't realize how much silver it takes to make silver. What kind of ratio to you get on your return of silver? you used over a kilo of pure silver and some of that silver powder and silver on your anode bar. how much do you expect to get from a 6L cell? just wondering. initial investment may not be a positive but if you can get two 6L cells off of one electrolyte solution (i think you said that on another video)... what kind of ROI do you get from this?
@sreetips
@sreetips 7 ай бұрын
I was harvesting 1.5 kilos per run with my 3.5 liter cells. So I’m hoping for double that with the six liter cell. I’ll try to use the same electrolyte for two runs, I’ll add another 500g of silver for the second run. So I’ll have 1.5 kilos invested in two runs, and I’ll get six kilos of pure silver (guesstimated) so the ROI will be 6 to 1.5 = 400% not counting the silver powder I melt into shot and add to the anode basket. That’s almost free because all the cement silver I get comes from my gold refining. The silver is a by-product of my gold refining. Plus, I don’t sell any of my silver. All of that goes into my treasury. I own and operate my own “central bank”. It has only one customer: me. My bank in on the GOLD (and silver) standard. It holds no paper, none. Hope this helps you understand better. I have at least three more buckets of cement silver that I must melt into shot for my silver cells. Probably over a hundred pounds of silver, and counting.

to reduces the current, turn back the current button to 5 A (or other value you want) but let the voltage at 3.5 V. the power supply shall reduce themself the voltage to adjust the current to 5 A. check the temperture and liquid level, 3.5 V x 5 A = 17.5 watts for a small volume may evapore a lot of water. the small cell use 3.5V x 2 A : only 7 watts.

use a bit of that clear tube and run it along that hole you cut in the lid for the electrolytic cell. that might give a nice fit.

I enjoy your channel so much. Sorry if you already covered this, but why do you have to melt the cement silver into shot, couldn't the powdered cement silver go directly into the anode basket?

Theory: Would an anode "Puck" of silver be better suited for this application? Construction idea: In a clean melt dish melt a sizable amount of pure silver, till pooled enough to accept a coiled copper wire, allow to cool. Wire should be coiled from a 90 degree angle out from wire. theory being the coil would efficiently distribute the electrical current through a larger round anode, for a larger cell. Love the content, you have inspired me to want to do yard sale gold mining, and refining, such an untapped market. Thank you Mr. Sreetips.

That set of nesting bowls from Costco was only $14.99. Heck of a steal, especially with their insulated rubber bottoms. My warehouse “deleted” the item, but it’s still on the website for $30.

I’m sure you’ve mentioned this before but what is the purity of the cement silver? When you melt it into shot it appears to have a lot of copper in it. I enjoy your videos!

Hi professor sreetips. Thks for all you do. Quick question. Roughly how much silver in the electrolyte is used or consumed in process. Or does it simply end up as new crystal on the bowl ? In other words is any electrolyte silver lost ? The newbee
@sreetips
@sreetips 7 ай бұрын
The silver in the electrolyte gets depleted as the cell operates. It deposits in the cathode. How much? It depends on conditions in the cell. I’ve never measured it so I can’t put a number on it.

I wonder if a stainless steel Bain Marie, what they hold soup In a buffet, would work better than a bowl because it’s a cylinder so the basket would sit higher? But the walls would be closer. Six of one half dozen the other.

How come you don't put the cement silver powder directly in to the filter? Would there be a buildup of slimes that would block the electrolysis? Asking because that would take out the step of melting it to shot and potentially save money on oxygen and acetylene.

I’m not so sure that it will fail soon, but it will fail. All fiat currencies have a 100% failure rate, eventually. I read an article on Caesar who ordered the Roman mint to drop the silver content by ten percent (their silver was know for its high purity) to finance rebuilding Rome. He threatened them with death if they told anyone. Eventually all the silver was removed and the currency was all base metal. But it took centuries for it to fail completely. And that’s what the modern bankers are relying on. They can get away with it for a long time. I could be wrong, but as long as they can print money to cover their shorts, and people believe that the printed money has value, then it could take a long time for people to realize that the money is actually worthless. That cash is trash. We get to find this out early.
