Title: Six Steps to Spiritual Progress
Description: This talk, held at a sister's event after Ramadhan, advises how one can maintain their spiritual boost after all the hard work exerted in the month of Ramadhan, ensuring that their efforts have not gone to waste.
Shaykh Abdur-Rahman mentions 6 steps which have been trialled and tested over many centuries by our great scholars to give each searching man/woman a presence of state of mind, helping them draw closer to their Lord.
By taking onboard these six steps will one have a constant state of piety in their life, where there is only increase in one's faith. Here then only, can a person claim to have tasted the sweetness of faith.

Summary: These steps can also be used in attempting to continue the spiritual high of Ramadhan. 1. Be in constant focus (one’s heart) on the presence of Allah (swt). This can be achieved; a. in conjunction with carrying out daily tasks. Eg cooking, driving etc. b. by also performing dhikr with the tongue and / or heart. Begin this process by aiming to be in this state for a short and defined period of time. Through practise, gradually increase the duration. 2. Constant dhikr of the tongue and heart. (Ties in with the above). The further away we are in remembering Allah (swt), the greater we will feel constricted and unsatisfied in life. Shaitaan will then have a greater chance is overtaking us due to our forgetfulness and / or avoidance in remembering Allah (swt). Dhikr of the heart can be achieved through meditation; be in a state of whudu, sit in the direction of the Kaabah, put our head down, clear and empty our mind (be in a blank space with you and Allah (swt) ), feel that the Mercy of Allah (swt) is showering, enveloping and cleaning our heart, and we are connecting to Allah (swt). This takes practise as our minds will be easily distracted; begin with a short period of time and through practise, gradually increase the duration. Dhikr of the heart is more powerful than the dhikr of the tongue. 3. Istighfar. Perform minimum 100 x per day. 4. Make salawat on Prophet Muhammad (saw); 100 x times in the morning and evening. 5. Consistent daily reading of the Quran. 6. Stay in the company of pious people.
