Notes: • Shaitan whispers into our chests, not directly into our hearts. o If Shaitan were to whisper directly into our hearts, we would have no choice. o However, by whispering into the chest, the heart has the option of accepting or rejecting the whisper. • Reading the Quran with reflection is one of the greatest cures of the heart, whereas hypocrisy is the highest level of sickness of the heart. • Our character and behaviour reflect the spiritual state of our heart. • Manifestations of a sound heart is contentment and satisfaction of the duniya, as opposed to greed and continuously chasing things to attain happiness. • Prophet Muhammad (saw) was soft towards the poor behaviour of others but would get extremely angry with matters relating to faith and if the rights of Allah (swt) were contravened. • Prophet Muhammad (saw) had perfect character because he had perfect equilibrium in all inner faculties. His heart was also washed at least 3 x times in his life. • Achieving equilibrium in 3 x faculties will give good character; 1. Anger - focus on lengthening the time it takes to get angry and shortening the time it takes to calm down. Vent and withhold anger in the right place and right time. 2. Desires. 3. Wisdom and intellect. • Pride and arrogance are difficult to find and remove from the heart, however the antithesis is abundant shukr / thanks and gratitude to Allah (swt).
