@@AaronWachs I think Six has a better shot at the Tony than JLP tbh. JLP got some mixed reviews and Six is one of the few shows this season with an original score which tony voters tend to prefer. The frontrunners are Six, Moulin Rouge, and Girl From the North Country which got great reviews off broadway. And then there is the complete wildcard that is Flying Over Sunset which could come in a sweep the awards if it is good. Moulin Rouge will likely get a lot of the set/costumes/tech awards

Reebow Amethyst THANK YOU! I was discussing this with my friend (who was lucky enough to see it when she was in the UK) and we both were like, “Uh, okay so ‘their stories are universal’ but 1. How many women can say they were with a man with this many spouses/exes and 2. We don’t have/never had a monarchy in the US...” and there’s so many “British-sms” in this show, like the use of the word “fit” or “fitter” is uniquely British and isn’t used at all in the same way in American vernacular. And I love this Anna of Cleves, but part of the brilliance of her song “Get Down” is her unapologetically sassy English rhyme “I’m the queen of the castle, get down you dirty rascal...” which is just SO British and loses some of its pow without the accent, imo...

It’s irritating that the accents can’t be right and I wish they’d said “castle” and “rascal” different because that part is meant to be like overly British sounding. But I feel like it would annoy more people if they faked bad accents. Like in the west end Heathers faked American accents and some were good but some were just annoying

actually I disagree. I literally hate hearing fake british accents on broadway - you can barely understand them when they sing. I think the Chicago run tried it when it started and the reviews ripped them apart.

Love the original cast all the way but I have to say this outstanding. The only sad part is they didn’t attempt even to do the British accent. This is obviously meant to be a very British show and it would lose that a little without the British accent. Still amazing tho

sheep shauna they were told not to. The original cast were also just singing in their natural accents, not specifically any type of British accent (for example to doing more royal or something). If they wanted to be accurate Boleyn would have a French accent Cleeves would have a German accent and Aragon would have a Spanish accent. They specifically wanted everyone to just be singing in their normal accent. The Australian queens also sing in their normal Australian accents.

Dont know about yall but i still think the bway og cast is superior in a lot of aspect compared to any other cast. But this is bway we’re talkin about we never expected less. It’s honestly kinda sad how the Broadway cast is the only cast that gets hated on for “not using British accents” (when the British accents aren’t even accurate for half of the queens). The cruise casts don’t get hate for using their own accents (American, Irish, etc.) and the Australian cast doesn’t get hate for using their own Australian accents. This show is about how you shouldn’t be defined by one thing and all of these haters are defining this cast by the fact they don’t use (inaccurate) British accents.
