Thank you for a very interesting video. The toolkit looks really useful but, sadly, too expensive for a hobbyist videographer.

This is huge and great. Especially for the price.

what is the difference between density and subtractive saturation? And, also, is there a way to achieve Ringelschwandtner's deep effect with your DCTLs (in combination with other resolve adjustments perhaps)?
@KaurH Жыл бұрын
Great questions! Density subtracts from the luminance of the image where more saturated colors become darker. Subsat saturates the image, but only by subtracting from the RGB channels, not adding to them. Ie. density affects luminance, subsat affects saturation and luminance. I haven't seen inside Stefan's deep DCTL so I don't know how it works, but you can get my demo pack and his demo version and compare them.

@@KaurH So, basically if you already have a highly saturated image and you just want to add density to it, you would use the density dctl? while if the image is less saturated, and you want to add saturation while also 'darkening' the color, subsat would be used?

Looks like the exact copy of Stefan Ringelschwandtner's dctl "color-shift", at a cheaper price tho :))

The concept is similar indeed, but the underlying maths are different and the vectors are customizable. And of course, he has his incredible looking "Deep" effect.

...based on using the Difference blend mode on colour charts, you seem to have altered the spherical Yedlin/Chen colour model in some way so that the saturation channel behaves differently (most notably w/ the 6-Vector Saturation and Density DCTLs)? Would you care to offer some insight into how you did it? 🙃
@KaurH Жыл бұрын
I use the Chen color model for the hue vector masking, hue shifting and saturation. For saturation (not sub-saturation) it's just simple gain on the 2nd color channel. As for density... that's some secret sauce 😉

Would be good to add a global slider to the saturation/ vibrance tools that increases everything at once to save time
@KaurH Жыл бұрын
These tools are specifically for manipulating parts of the image. I have separate tools for changing the whole image, but if you wanted, you could set all the bands to max and just use the global blend at the very bottom as a master control.

For look development, would you recommend this or the gamut manipulator? Do you have any dctl that makes color changes in LAB color model ? Coukd I throw this in a lab color model and get different results ?
@KaurH Жыл бұрын
Gamut manipulator is a very complex tool. As an alternative to these, I'd recommend using multiple gamut shapers in parallel to target different hues. As for manipulating colors in the LAB color model, I have a tool called "LAB Shaper" kaurh.gumroad.com/l/dctl_lab_shaper That being said, I do also use these six-vector tools as a part of look development as they offer very smooth adjustments and are thus less prone to breaking the image.

@@KaurH I read one of your comments talking about your look development process. What are you using mostly for hue adjustments?!
@KaurH Жыл бұрын
@@MountUpMedia First I do some overall shaping with color crosstalk and then depending on how precise I want to be, I'll either use the six-vector hue or many gamut shapers in parallel.

Hey, I love the content you've been uploading since few months, you're verry talented. However, I do have to say that I find your tools too overpriced so I never purchased one for now. Actually it's almost the same prices as every other plugins in the industry which many of them are already overpriced because they know Colorist are willing to pay that much. I don't know how much time it took you to code this six vector tool but I assume if 6 people bought it you would already be profitable. The porblem is these prices prevent non professionals from buying all of your licenses bc for this price range they could spend just a little bit more and get what's already on the market made by an entire team. If this tool costed like 50 bucks, I swear I'd buy it as many others would and you'd be able to grow a community arround this channel. You would be this young solo developper that stands against the other companies and stills does a very decent job. I don't want to critize your work, I just want to give a feedback on how I feel and maybe other nonproffesional colorist subscribers also do.

Thanks for your feedback! My tools are indeed geared more towards professional colorists who have the budget to buy these tools. The tools were actually cheaper at first, and I got the exact opposite feedback. People value these tools and let's be honest, you can do most of what my tools do with Resolve's tools, it's just a lot more cumbersome, time consuming, and at times more prone to breaking the image. That being said, I'm always happy to chat on IG @KaurTheColorist
