Harry Nilsson is one of my all time favourite artists, and this song brings me such a deep joy in my heart. Thank you for your positive contribution to the world with this channel. I originally stumbled across your video when learning Embryonic Journey (I'm half way through thanks to you), and upon scrolling the comments I saw somebody request this song, and lo and behold here it is. Thank you for your kindness.

After learning Neon on this channel, Who Says on this channel, Stop this train, Why Georgia, my most used fingerstyle percussion pattern from this channel, I can safely say, this is the most underrated KZbin channel in 2021.

@UC05zX_k72BeiMCV-iUwyV4Q Thanks for your interest. It depends on your prior experience I suppose. If your fingerpicking needs work you may want to do the beginner/intermediate courses first. Having said that it's not a strict prerequisite at all and if you really want to arrange then you can jump straight into that course. Let me know if I can help you any further. Thanks again

I think there are two guitars on the recording (both played by Al Casey) and trying to play the lick on one guitar you'll never get it exactly right. On the intro I can clearly hear one guitar slightly right and the other slightly left. The one slightly right (using note names as if we were in C, not E) seems to be playing C-E-G, G-E-G, (starting on the 5th string) the rhythm being eighth-eighth-quarter, eighth-eighth-quarter, while the one slightly left is handling the upper notes of the lick, the C-E-C-B-B stuff. If the G sounding on the 2nd beat (being played on the guitar slightly right) were being played on the same guitar as the one playing the first B, that you've got on beat 2+ on the 3rd string, then the G (also on the 3rd string) would be cut off, and it isnt. Just my 2 cents. Anyway, it's a great record, and a great lick. (There's also supposed to be a banjo in there somewhere, just to confuse matters further. Haha.)

Hello Chris Great lesson as always. One small question re. "Everybody's Talkin'". At the beginning where you switch to a Cmag7, holding down g 4th fret, why not play b open and hammer-on as and where appropriate? I hardly dare ask this question of a maestro, just a thought ...
@SixStringFingerpicking3 жыл бұрын
Hi Philip, you can try it like that if you want to. I think this way is good because the B note can sustain through the Cmaj7 chord. Hope that makes sense

Hey bro thanks for the awesome vids. Don't know if you do requests but John mayer did a live acoustic version of slow dancing in a burning room, earlier this year(a jam in place concert) it would be a cool vid if you could work that out.

Does this song have to be played using fingerpicking? That certainly leaves out quite a few guitar players. A LOT !! The chord progression is tricky as it is. Unfortunately, Harry made it so most players can't play it on guitar. It's an excellent tune too.
@David-Hope11 ай бұрын
I think this is easier to play with capo at 2 and start on a D chord. Sequence feel more like what would have been done on the record. This is really good though, thanks.
@toddmanefski43939 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip David-Hope. It feels much more natural playing this using a D chord shape.

Your going too fast and confusing What could otherwise be a great lesson if you were slow down and explain clearly the fingering and the picking pattern

Sorry you feel that way, I try my best. Your too fast is somebody else's too slow.

Actually found it very clear myself. Is a very tricky little song Bill. Certainly not a standard alternate thumb pattern. Been fingerpicking for over 25 years and this one once I get it will be a whole new level. Thanks very much for the lesson, very accurate and conveys the push feel of the song really well. Three thumbs up.
