PRS Partial Coil Split

In part 2 - we add a master coil split using a push pull pot for the tone control.

Our tone control now acts as a master coil split for each humbucker. As it is based on the PRS model, we have added 2 resistors to the push pull pot to create a partial split - ie. not all of the signal is sent to ground during a coil split. Partial coil splits nicely balance out humbuckers if you find them sounding too weedy and thin when split.

I'm glad no-one has used the erroneous term '' coil- TAP ''... There is a difference between 'coil-split' and a 'coil-tap'.

So... If you are wring a PRS (or anything...) with PRS pickups, which in most cases are 3-conductor - Your black/white is your - hot/ground and your red is the series coil link/split coil conductor which goes to the coil-split switch (with or without partial resistance) to ground-out each of that humbuckers coils - giving single coil output, or partial single coil with a series resistor.

Great clip….. but I believe in have a bit of confusion. I have been back & forth with this clip (PRS SPLIT w/ 1.1 & 2.2) and the clip you have where you’re describing the comparison between CTS pot va classic pot. In that clip you mention that grounding would be from lug 3 &/or lug 1 to ground and possible to install the resistor there instead of the ground wire. That would correspond to the 2 bottom lugs on a classic pot layout. But here, it’s showing that the grounding option with resistors would be using the middle 2 lugs of a classic pot (C2 & C1 in a CTS layout). So I think I need some clarity. Is there a mix up?? In this case it's exactly the same. When pulled C2 and 3 are connecte, as well as C1 and 1. If pushed, nothing happens, since nothing is connected to 2 and 4. Therefore you can do it eather this way or the other

Why aren't the resistors soldered from 1 and 2 to pod and the humbucker wires on c1/c2 ? Is this also possible or does the wiring no longer work?

okay, so this is exactly what I'm looking for. but what happened if you have 3 legs push pull/push push tone (mid - output "why don't you connect the left(input) on volume to mid tone pot instead of the mid one and put the cap on tone?", right - ground or something, left - where this thing goes)? and what will happen if instead of connecting S+N finish in 3, you connect it to C2?

How does the partial split affect neck pickup vs bridge pickup? The neck has 1.2kohm and bridge 2.2kohm.. is it kinda like how a 300k volume pot will make your tone darker than 500k and they wamt to take more brightness from bridge pickup than neck?

Think I flipped what's 1.1 and 2.2.. say we have a 490r neck and 498t bridge in a gibson. This would take neck reading from say 8.1k down to 7k and bridge from say 14.2k down to 12k?

@@frankloscutoff6553 Don't bother with a bloody CTS push-pull 'chest' pot... Use a Bourns pot with a push-push DPDT (Double-Pole - Double-Throw) switch incorporated - about £10 [ $12.52 ] from most electronics outlets. These DPDT switches can be in various configurations; either push-push or push/pull - generally there are six lugs in a pair of threes. The middle lugs of each pair is common and in one position connects with lower pair and in the opposite position connects with upper pair. These are used for phase reversal, coil-splitting etc.. On the PRS S2 range, they've opted for push/pull DPDT incorporated switch, with the two resistors wired to the middle pair of lugs (one resistor each side) and grounded (as in this video) to the pot can. In one position the circuit remains open (as one pair of lugs remains unconnected to anything), giving full humbucker output; in the obverse position - each 'coil-split' conductor is either fully or partially earthed, turning the coils into a parallel set of single coils with partial humbucking.

So both South starts are grounded to system ground?

Only when 'split-coil' is enabled. Otherwise they remain connected together as the series link between the two coils of the HB.

1/8th or 1/4 watt 1.1 kilo-ohm [bass/neck] & 2.2 kilo-ohm [treble/bridge] will do the trick. WATCH THE VIDEO.

How would i do a wiring set up like this with two 500k pots and one cts to two humbuckers, toggle switch and jack, im half way through doing this prs set up on one of my guitars, but my other guitar which i have to do is a harley benton sc1000 custom with floyd rose and has three pots and a les paul style toggle switch
