Polish any plastic you see though. ATV windshields, face shields, snowmobile windscreens, Airplanes / Helicopter Windshields, Race Car Windshields, safety glasses, sunglasses etc.
Polycarbonate
Acrylic
Lexan
Plexiglass
WHAT I USED IN THE VIDEO
Plexiglass CLEANER polish spray: amzn.to/3NnDnUL
RainX for Plastics: amzn.to/3GEHF6h
8" polisher buffing wheel hard: amzn.to/3uArotb
8" polisher buffing wheel soft: amzn.to/3Y287hT
Tripoli Brown Bars 1lb 95-97% flawless : amzn.to/3GG3qmc
Blue polishing bar 1lb for 98-100% flawless: amzn.to/3BlFanr
Variable speed polisher under $50: amzn.to/3hiHiVU
DeWalt Variable speed polisher: amzn.to/3FD4W95
Polisher extension standoff(must have) : amzn.to/3RhTapo
USE your DRILL arbor mandrels: amzn.to/46TzWfs
ALL the basic polishing compounds in a kit: amzn.to/3Hm4nl9
After Thoughts about the Video: If you want 99% flawless you will need to install a dedicated soft pad(not used for anything but plastics) and use a blue compound amzn.to/3BlFanr . It will take you a long time and if you get grit on your pad you will have to start all over. You will notice the plexiglass builds up a lot of static. The Brillianize cleaner can be used in between to de-static and show your progress.
DONT'S for good results:
Don't do this on a hot day in the sun.
Don't hold the pad in one spot... Keep moving
Don't apply a ton of compound
Don't do it in a dirty environment
Don't worry... It's easy.

Great video, Moe! I suspect rinsing the windshield with a garden hose first and then a light touch with a pressure washer with soap might be a way to avoid the stuck bits of debris ahead of time, thereby reducing those light scratches during the process.

You can also fire polish it for a final treatment to get the fine scratches out. But it is a technique that has a VERY fine line between perfection and destruction. You have to treat the torch like an air brush with super super super attention to detail. One second of inattention will produce a bubbled burnt spot or you'll warp the whole sheet. Lots of practice on scrap pieces for sure. But it is unparalleled in producing a crystal clear finish.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 7 ай бұрын
You're right, there is a thin line. I've messed with flame polishing but it's really only meant for the edges of cut pieces. You quickly go from looking better to horrible in a second.

You can use an old hand saw to clean your buffing wheels. Even with a bench buffing wheel polishing steel, it will last a lifetime. And tripoli is the same as in the Marine Corps song, from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli. Buffing plastic and glass is satisfying.

P.S. twice the diameter means twice the circumference, which means twice the surface feet per minute, not four.

Nice, wonder about a heat gun for those deeper ones. By no means worth the effort but curious 😂
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 7 ай бұрын
The heat gun/torch is a tricky one. That technique works; kind of. It won't remove a scratch but it will make it less visible. It does so by just remelting a stressed scratch edge that has turned white and makes it clear again. It fills back in a little but not completely. It's really easy to go to far and warp the entire panel.
@Rein_Ciarfella
@Rein_Ciarfella 7 ай бұрын
Have you tried this process on faded or scratched plastics on lawn tractors and other OPE? I come across things like chainsaws that I clean really well but still don’t look all that great when I’m done.
@Wil_Liam1
@Wil_Liam1 7 ай бұрын
By the way,all of what Moe showed in this video works just as well on atc,atv,motorsickle,ride on toys,etc plastics.. If faded or deeply scratched ,careful application of heat will often remove most scratches,and even some gouges,while helping to bring the color back closer to original...Applying several good layers of Rain-X for plastics will help to shed dust,mud,water,etc. plus has a uv protector in it which aids in slowing the fading process..

@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 7 ай бұрын
I have done the soft top windows on Jeeps and a convertible. It works great. The hardest part is you can't apply a ton of pressure unless you lay it flat on something. Then because it's so thin you need to make sure not to overheat an area and melt/burn the plastic.

Interesting idea. Yeah, the look under the seat to see the fuel level is a pain. I find it easier just to look down the filler neck on mine. I know you can use hydrogen peroxide to de-yellow plastics. Not sure if the HDPE of gas tanks would also work.
