i remember being 17 and walking into brandy melville as a size 10 NOT KNOWING they were a one size fits all store. and GIRL....i had never felt so completely judged, out of place and just downright not good enough as i tried on the clothes that were not made at all for my body type. the girls that work there were awful too. they look at you with a "why are YOU here...." look on their face. i'm 25 now and i still remember the way that store made me feel to this day. genuinely wish i could boycott them for good :(

peyton revy oh yes. I remember being a teen going to target or Walmart and the jeans were really nice quality. Macy’s had nice quality clothes. Penny’s etc. Now you go to Kohls or Penny’s and the material is thinner and cheaper. More polyester less cotton. Less quality in clothing now vs 15 yrs ago. I have a pair of Levi from when 11 yrs ago. Same style. Boot cut. Etc. but the feel is completely different and the thickness and durability is completely different too. You used to be able to find a nice pair of slacks for an affordable cost and it would last years. Shoes too. Now it seems my sneakers or flats fall apart so much mor quickly.

cinnamonsticks honestly I know girls who are really small and skinny and I was there once too, and we couldn’t find anything that fit right, it made me and others feel like little boys and I would cry in dressing rooms and if I had Brandy back then I think it would have helped because it’s really small clothes that are flattering on smaller women. I understand the problem but I really don’t think it’s all bad, it’s also a European brand and correct me if I’m wrong but usually those brands don’t have a lot of sizes. But I think only having tiny sizes will be hurtful and not having small enough sizes will hurt other people, it really just depends on the girl, what we should be focusing on more I think is building up girls self esteem and showing them that their size and the clothes they wear don’t determine their worth. I totally get the issue and I don’t agree with everything brandy does but that’s just another perspective.

Call me Kiki ya exactly! I’m a size 6 and i’m a perfectly healthy weight, my waist is like 28 inches and my best friend fits in brandy and she has a 24 inch waist and some of their clothes are snug on her, if your waist is any larger than 24 inch you definitely won’t fit in brandy no matter your weight or anything. Also their clothes are made for people with really small cup sizes, i’m a C cup and their tops would never fit me because they have no room. Especially the dresses. EDIT: Y’all chill!!!! everyone’s body is different i’m sorry if your waist is a 30in and you fit in brandy and I personally offended you 😞

Haha, I’m 5’6 maybe almost 5’7 (I’m 14). I’m a large in pants right now so I haven’t really tried Brandy pants, I ordered 30 waist corduroys from off the website so I’ll see if it fits properly (40 hips as of now). I’m a size small in tops, 30 Waist, 36 Bust, Brandy tops tend to fit my bust okay but some definitely some don’t, There are some that are 18 inches across that fit me really well I also have thin arms so the arms fit well and aren’t tight. It really depends, I plan on losing weight anyways so it’ll probably fit better afterwards, I don’t want to lose weight because of brandy, It’s more because I’d like to enter modeling and the extra weight I carry is unflattering. :) So Brandy works for some people for sure, Different girls wear brandy at my school, A girl at my school who’s alittle heavier than me wears brandy and it looks fine despite the muffin top, A girl who is thinner wears brandy so it really depends. In my opinion they don’t have to accomidate to plus size cause sometimes plus size is super unhealthy, Like the overweight kind of “curvy” isn’t healthy and brands don’t have to accommodate that. I understand wanting Mediums and larges though.

Even though they cater to tall thin women they don’t cater to extra tall and thin which is what I am, the shoulders, pants, and sleeves are always off for me Personally, I don’t mind brands that cater to specific body types, but they can’t pretend that it is universal (for clarification I mean they aren’t universal in the sense that a lot of tall S and XS can’t fit into their clothes even though that’s their demographic 😂)
@Dark-uk4oz

Exactly. It’s such a strict size. By tall it’s really only for girls 5’8-5’11 and xs to small. So when people say it’s for tall girls they exclude very tall girls over 6’0.

Gabby Gabrielson that’s really weird... honestly I know y’all have as much issues with clothes as us shorter girls do( I’m 4’11”) I understand creating a brand specifically for certain heights because certain things fit different heights better. Like I can’t wear certain dresses because where a taller womans cleavage end would be... is the middle of my stomach lol and Ik y’all girls look like they have mini dresses on in skater dresses. It just seems dumb to isolate a huge portion of your target audience by acting like one size fits all means all y’all girls are built like 4x4’s. 🙄🙄

It’s so refreshing to watch a video that validates the importance of stores creating clothing that do not just cater to one body size. I think that it's very interesting to see you as a blind person talking about body shapes/types and clothing fits because I feel like you are more aware of your shape due to your senses and I love how you are very positive about curvy body types. You are so good at knowing details about fabrics and sizing even though you can't visually see the items. I also find it interesting that even though some of the clothes fit you, you are still critical about the company and how unfair and unrealistic it is to label clothing as one size fits all. Hey! Love your videos and honestly Brandy Melville isn't the best company, but I worked at Brandy for 2 years and truly we don't say it's one size fits all it's one size per style. As in if we have a sweater that sweater will have one size. Everyone that worked at Brandy kneeeew not to say it fit everyone cause I'm a solid medium and only 40% of their styles fit me. BUT that being said the reason it was done was economic. They didn't want to make more sizes and that's messed up lol. Anyway, just my 2 cents as a past employee!

Jemma Park i work at a pacsun that sells brandy now and i feel like brandy has gotten worse and better in some ways. They do have a bunch of clothes that fit medium and some that fit large, and some that are like an xxs so that’s kind of good. The only thing is that sizes aren’t consistent with each style anymore. I have a couple of the plaid cara skirts and they all have dif sizes. Some of them fit me perfectly, some are wayyy to small on me which is immensely frustrating. Anytime someone asks we have to say its one size-bc on their website it says what size they fit-some say L, some say xs, etc

I studied abroad in DC and all my international friends were super excited to go to Brandy Melville. I tagged along and I did like the style of multiple items in the store. All my friends were trying things on and that's when I realised they only had one size of everything. Nobody had told me prior. They left the story with bags stuffed with clothing while I left the store with a shattered confidence (and I am what I consider an average woman - though I have a Dutch height of 177cm, the length of the items were definitely not the issue and I have quite an athletic body but still nothing fit me). Why do these kinds of stores exist? It's cruel and toxic. Thank you Molly for raising awareness on the brand. Love you

i'll be honest right now, brandy melville would fit me perfectly, i can't deny that, i'm 5'9 about 100 pounds and i have zero hips and curves. if i went shopping with some friends, let's say my friends are, 4'10 and 5'3, one of them is plus size and another is curvy but with a small waist. that's a pretty normal thing that happens in friend groups, usually you aren't all the same height and weight, if all three of us walk into a store and we are able to buy three outfits that are matching (obviously different sizes) if they flatter our bodies equally, then that is a very good store, i'm not expecting all stores to be like that, but they should definitely work on having petite, tall, large, small, etc of every single clothing piece. I simply don't support brandy melville, or any brand that does either "one size fits all" or simply caters to one body shape.

@Tommy gibstain being curvy doesn't equal being unhealthy... There are a lot of factors that influence your weight and the shape of your body. I'm also kinda curvy but that partly is just due to my body type and partly due to the fact that I'm relatively muscular for a girl.

I tease and call her my little bean pole. It’s actually hard to find clothing that fits her body. We usually shop the Asian sites for her clothes. My 16 year old daughter is also thin. But she’s short and has a more curvy hourglass shape. She’s 5’ 2” and around 115 pounds. She’s a size M or 6/8. She has boobs and a booty. Her shape is easier to shop for. I LOVE how you uploaded this video on the same day that I randomly decided to try on Brandy things after years. I feel like 90% of their things aren’t for women with hips, like us, even if we’re small sizes.

For anyone from europe! Think about this when americans (or canadians) mentions US sizing that for to count a size 0 as 30. then move along. 2=32 4=34 and so on. and ones you get in to 40 its 10=40, 12=42. hope that helps someone.

I honestly think there’s no problem with a store like Brandy Melville. They cater to the up and down “model” body type and it’s kind of widely known. They haven’t publicly shamed any body types like the maker of Abercrombie.. they just simply cater to one body type. There are stores that cater specifically to larger and curvier body types and don’t offer any clothes for slimmer “model” body types.. and yet no one is criticizing them for it. As a slim girl myself, I find it amazing that I can walk into brandy and not have to try anything on, knowing that the skirt is going to fit my waist, which a lot of skirts don’t. It’s just as hard for a slim body type to find clothes as a heavier girl, we shouldn’t be judged based of our genetics. And in saying that Brandy shouldn’t be judged simply because it’s a more popular brand than that of say, Torrid.

I'm not necessarily saying that it's a 'bad' thing for Brandy Melville to exist, but it's no where NEAR the same thing for a store to cater to plus size bodies as it is for stores like Brandy to exist. 'Model' body type stores or just far more common, while plus size stores are still incredibly rare. Even in stores that stock more diverse sizes, the plus size section is still lacking while small's are almost always present. Mainstream brands generally don't leave smaller people out of collections or make excuses about why they can't cater to their size. My point is, the reason people don't criticize plus size stores is because there is a HUGE difference between a store stocking what is still widely believed to be the 'industry standard', and the 'ideal body', or maybe even what's just below that sizewise (I.e. Brandy Melville) and a store stocking clothing for people who are constantly forgotten and neglected and even denigrated by the fashion industry. You can walk into stores like this and not try have to try anything on, and also walk into every other store and probably find your size in a bigger variety of clothing, or at least somewhere amongst the 'standard sizing'. Might be harder than people above a zero, but there's usually still options. Plus size people have such little variety and people over size 20 often don't find anything they like at all unless they go into the very few, very new plus size stores that are _maybe_ close to where they shop. Sometimes even plus size specific brands don't run high enough! There's also obviously the issue of them calling their clothing 'one size fits all' and only catering to really small sizes. Plus size stores don't do that, they're usually built off of the acknowledgement that a lot of bodies are different from the mainstream standard so they cater to a variety of sizes along the plus size spectrum and call out that they're plus size clothing. What kind of message does that communicate to have super small clothing that's supposedly supposed to fit everyone? Why not just brand themselves as 'petite' clothing?

@@Lisa_Flowers To be fair, Brady's trademark is just "one size", NOT one size fits ALL. You might think it's easier for a 'model' body type to find clothing that fits, but you would be devastatingly surprised to find out that it is not. Brandy caters to XXS body types, with general waist sizes of around a 22-24. This is not the common size of a small in any of your typical store brands, where it is generally a 26-28. It's in the eye of the beholder whether or not someone lets a clothing size determine what they can and can't wear or how they feel about themselves because of it. I don't walk into a place oriented for larger girls and wonder why they don't have my size in the store. Your logic is kind of hypocritical...

@@Hailey8991 My logic is based on the systemic discrimination that fat and plus size ppl have faced and continue to face in the fashion industry (and literally everywhere else). My logic is based on how plus size women are always left out of merch sales, from KZbinrs to huge fashion brands, and how the excuse is always 'this is a test run, we'll account for you later' or 'we can't afford to run that big the fabric costs too much' when smaller sizes are more LIKELY to be there. My logic is based on how plus size bodies are never seen as the ideal in any circle that holds power, whereas thin bodies, even and especially very thin ones are idealized and viewed as models. My logic is based in *context*. Yes, it may be harder for very thin people to find clothing that fits them in general stores than it would be for a 'average' sized person. But it is just no where near the same thing as for plus sized folks. The existence of a store that caters to a size ppl are still pressured to be (I.e. thin) and the existence of a store catered to ppl who, like I said (and you conveniently ignored) are forgotten and denigrated and tokenized by the fashion industry are completely. Different. Things. Like for very thin ppl at most it's practical difficulty and maybe some hurt feelings about being thin shaming. For plus size ppl it's practical difficulty, fat shaming, discrimination in health services, discrimination in adoption, discrimination in jobs, just all out fatphobia and discrimination. The existence of a plus size store and a store for thin folks just aren't symbolically the same. They don't signify the same thing. So yeah, you walking into a store for plus size women and wondering why there are no clothes for you is NOT the same thing as a plus size girl wondering why she's constantly left out of or pushed aside in fashion for the sake of thinner bodies. It's just you wondering why a space doesn't cater to your thin body when literally almost every other space in society, not just in the fashion industry, does - even if you're catered to marginally less than with a more universally stocked 'average' thin. Also - 'one size' still isn't good enough. It doesn't brand itself as 'petite' which means you'd have to walk in, look and maybe try clothes on and then realize your too big for them. To me branding clothing as one size without specifying what size implies that you should just be able to fit into them and if you can't, too bad. I guess your body just isn't small enough. No where near the same thing as just saying your for petite folks, like plus size brands do. You don't have to go through the emotionally damaging experience if trying on clothes that are too small or searching for bigger sizes. It doesn't mind fuck you into thinking your body should be different or is the problem. (And again, the is is more salient when clothes are too SMALL because we live in a society that universally and predominantly tells ppl to be smaller and not bigger, ppl with eating disorders want to be thinner, not fatter). This also can't be argued to be the same as a plus size store because plus size stores have DIFFERENT SIZES. They don't assume all plus size ppl have the same body. Literally a fraction of a fraction of the population can just walk into a store and not try anything on because its fits their particular size and body perfectly. Even very thin ppl have different body types or are different sizes. Can they all shop here? The comments section says no. Brandy Melville caters to one size (not to a multitude of ppl like plus size stores do) and one body type. Saying 'your body must look exactly like this to fit into our clothing' is NOT the same thing as a store dedicated to a variety of different plus size bodies and sizes

@@Lisa_Flowers Your logic is based on the fashion industry as a whole not on the specific store that is Brandy Melville. No one who speaks on behalf of Brandy Melville in their media campaigning fat shames or tells women that they are not good enough for the brand because of their size. They simply cater to the one size. There are many, many stores that cater to larger women and curvier women, and that speak out in doing so. They often have a plus-size section and carry sizes in L, XL, and even XXL. Just as I made the comparison of Torrid and Brandy Melville, I will do it again. They never claimed to fit a diverse amount of women, just as Torrid doesn't claim to fit a diverse amount of women. They are stores catered to fit a marginal selection of women so that those women can shop there. --Because of Brandy's publicity and the fact that people tend to shop there more openly doesn't make it different in the comparison. Just as I said before, I would not walk into a marginalized store and expect there to be clothes that fit me. Second of all, PETITE refers to a smaller person in height, usually under that of 5'3, NOT just their size. There would be no reason for them to say they are a petite brand if the girls that shop there can go upwards of 5'9. You are bagging on a brand that has never personally attacked women and never claimed to offer or provide what you are insinuating. They are allowed to market themselves as a brand however they please, and if they choose to market to that body type, then don't by their clothes if you don't fit or enjoy the brand.

You're not listening to what she's stating. She isn't trying to downplay the struggle of finding clothes for thin people, it sucks whenever anyone can't fit into the clothes that they want to fit into. She's trying to say that there's a difference in prevalence of predominantly thinner or larger clothing types. Just because one type of thin clothing marketed in stores is too big for you doesn't mean that ALL thin people are misrepresented in clothing. Additionally, just because a brand hasn't outrightly proclaimed that they "hate fat people" this does not in any circumstance mean that they are body positive or projecting a healthy message. In a modern world where everyone is different it is imperative that a brand is self aware of the image that they reflect, and Brandy Melville's image is that they will ONLY make clothes for ONE body. Not even one size or one body type, if one fits into Brandy Melville then they fit the singular proportions that the brand represents. They only have size variation on few products and even these variations are one size bigger with slight adjustments in hip or waist measurements. About what you're conveying about plus size stores: Plus sized stores cater to MORE THAN ONE type of larger body. They carry MULTIPLE larger sizes for the MULTIPLE body types of the larger consumers for that store. I understand what you're trying to say about Brandy Melville catering to smaller and thinner people. What I believe you're trying to say that if larger people can have stores marketed towards larger bodies then why can't thinner people have stores marketed towards thinner or smaller bodies? There is nothing wrong with this idea, there should be more size representation across the board. However, Brandy Melville is not a proper representative of this idea. They don't cater to multiple sizes of thinner people, some people who are thin find Brandy Melville far to small and constricting and some people who are thin find Brandy Melville far too big and baggy for their body type. People's disliking of Brandy Melville DOES NOT stem from the idea of a store catering to a smaller body type. People's problem with Brandy Melville is that they aren't properly representing anyone.

Ive watched several of your clothing try on videos and i want to say i really appreciate the way you talk about different body types and your personal body type and its matter of fact rather than being down on yourself or any particular body type. Im actually the opposite of you in that im tall with long legs, torso, and arms. And yet i feel so included watching your videos even though you have a different body type than me! I dont even really know how to explain it, but somehow molly you manage to bring up issues without being irate while also acknowledging that lack of diversity in clothing fit is a problem. I really enjoy your reviews and that you can say well this fits really well for me but maybe not someone else, or well this fit isnt for me but if youre anothet body type you might really like it. Its a small thing with a big impact, thank you
