Just how much sand is there on that planet? I mean the average sand depth in the Sahara is five meters, even the smallest worm wouldn't be able to "swim" there.

The size of sand worms are very inconsistent

What you're seeing is different worms throughout different stages of their life cycles. Like real world animals, you and me for example, can be different sizes depending on our genetics and life stages. It's the same for the worms, so there are no size inconsistencies. This isn't like the Monsterverse or Pacific rim verse with the monsters like Godzilla or slattern having different sizes and feats throughout their media.
