NOBODY has ever showed me this or talked about it. I have always struggled with the half steps I hear in country music, esp. ,old school stuff. I'm a classic rocker so I'm always thinking playing in key or the 4th and 5th. Never have I thought about the b7. Thanks a million. My eyes are opened!

I bought several of your DVD lessons when I got back into the guitar, after 5 years of collecting dust, then taking my mother to see her favorite artist, Brad Paisley and feeling the way I did as a kid hearing Eruption from Van Halen. I started looking for teachers, but nobody had that Paisley, Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Steve Wariner thing, until I found your lessons. Playing gigs with Grunge-ish and Hard Rock bands I thought we would get killed, but people loved Amos Mosses, Mama Tried, etc., with me employing techniques I got from your video lessons. Thanks a million!!

Oh sure, it's easy to play these licks when you have half a telecaster and an extra set of hands growing out of your shirt pocket. Not so much for those of us with pocketless shirts... :) I just discovered your site a few days ago and I'm digging the lessons. Thank you for the great content. I'm trying to sort out hybrid picking, chicken pickin', flatpickin', and getting that clean-ish spanky country twang and lessons like this really help with that.

Doug, God knows, I appreciate your work and free lessons. Having said that, you are teaching very seriously advanced player/students. Do you know how many seriously advanced players there are? Very few. I am middle intermediate. You are on Mars and I am standing on Earth trying to grasp maybe 12% of what you are doing. But God help, some I do actually see. Please, can you lead some of your lessons toward us and help us to get to the next level.thank you Sam Henry
@DougSeven7 жыл бұрын
Sam, I can definitely appreciate that and thank you for taking the time to give your feedback! I promise in the near future to do some more lessons geared for folks in the intermediate level of playing. Thanks again buddy!
@playitstevo4 жыл бұрын
I bought several vids of yours. At first your teachings were down to earth and graspable. In the last 7 or 8 years you have moved to mars. Most people that can are capable of playing your teachings now don’t need any teaching. Come back to the intermediate plane and advanced intermediate. You will sell more cds. I do appreciate your efforts. When I found you ten years ago, I thought I had finally found what I was looking for. You left me covered in dust a long time ago. I don’t even open your emails anymore because I know it’s just too frustrating. I want you to reel you back in. Thanks

Dude.....i just wanna to do what you do. watching you makes me green with envy. hahaha if you dont mind me asking, how did you get to this level? did you learn from a teacher. are you self taught? are you a "by ear" oriented player? im just at a loss. youre a monster.
@PIANOSTYLE1006 жыл бұрын
Know the feeling.. you won't to be creative. I think the best patterns are the ones that work with melody.. Also doesn't matter what Im practicing.. I try to just take break and just play random notes . I'll play from another key.. all the sudden it sounds good. then I notice I've stumbled onto a tritone sub scale. Another thing I don't I let the scales work for me. I know the theory dominant diminished..etc.. but that's just categorizing something. If I want mix a dominant with a minor chord or minor scale and it works that just becomes a part of me. And some how these things mix into our consciousness and become natural. I've been away from my electric for awhile.. But playing take your memory with you.. I got it in just a few minutes.. I think a little faster than when I did when I played and practiced many hours a day. Here is something to think about.. When you play many hours a day.. Hve you ever thought how many hours a day you play on your guitar.. I'd almost bet you spend about 80 hours a week.. I'm counting thinking, playing for enjoyment, practicing, and performing..just think many notes you hit. On the piano counting chords as single notes...I problem hit conservatively in hour of jamming.. including Jerry Lee Lou's scrapes around ten thousand notes. with over forty years playing .. notes I hit are in the billions. Counting chords on the guitar you also. It's a staggering thought. .
