Wow, I can't believe you went with the SJ. To my eyes, everything you showed, the GoPro was much better and it's the old model. I understand that if you are on a budget, the SJ is a good buy, but the footage speaks for itself. I wish you had uploaded this video in 2 parts so you could have uploaded the 2k bits in 2k. Hi. I smashed my GoPro Hero 4 Black when I stuck it on the backboard at a basketball game. I borrowed my GFs SJ4000 when I did some traveling, and apart from the underwater shots, I wasn't impressed at all. When deciding whether to cash out on a new GoPro, I did a lot of research, and your video helped me decide on the sj5000x. Thanks!

The cost of the Gopro is simply because they captured the market. Now the patents have run out which is why we can now buy other brands. I always love seeing the 'big player' in any market get some stiff competition only because the cost is almost always outrageous. For me, the Sjcam is a no-brainer. The cost difference is incredible and the quality difference is certainly not. Which in this case is a good thing. Great video 24/7

I notice that for both 30 and 60 fps, the SJ5000 is giving a double image if you freeze frame while the camera is panning, which they GoPro isn't. This leads to rather jerky artifacts. Also, there seem to be more aliasing artifacts with the SJ5000. Are these things that have been introduced by the conversion to appear on KZbin, or were they present in the original video? What file format do the two cameras save videos in? Are they H264 TS or MP4, or are they another format? I wonder why all these small cameras can only do 30 fps (and multiples of this) rather than being switchable to 25 (and multiples of this) for the UK/European/Australian market where you may want to cut this footage into a PAL video from a conventional camcorder. The world is more than just the USA :-) Most packages (eg Adobe Premiere Elements) will give jerky pans due to dropped or duplicated frames if you include 30 fps video in a 25 fps project or vice versa.

little note to all, rewatch the vids, but make sure you set youtube's player to its highest quality, you will not get so many artifacts and a better feel of playback, i like the over saturation , more is better and can be dulled down in post. for $350 less than GP, i decided to buy,

For good audio with any cheap clone Camara without a mic input, just use a Sony idc x333 digital audio recorder with neewer lapel mic and use that audio when editing. A good way to lineup the recorded audio file to your video file is to clap or cough three times as your match up point. The recorder and mic is only $60 on eBay.

Thanks for the comparison. From the video compression going into KZbin, I have a question which I don't think can accurate be answered from the video. If I use this for cycling, and a car passes at ~40 MPH, will I be able to retrieve the licence plate if their is an issue? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. I decided to get the SJCAM M20 (releases in a few days) over the SJ5000X as it appears to be better. I really appreciate your video. While the GoPro Hero 4 will probably delivery better quality, I was able to get (2) M20, (2) 64GB SD cards, extra batteries and mounts for less than one Hero 4. I read another review that the video quality was 70-80% that of the GoPro but 30% of the price. After price, the thing that sold me was the video quality and colors from your video. Thank you again!

It's too bad that the SJ only has 24fps in 4K. But actually, to my eyes, all the footage of the SJ was much better. So I agree with you. Especially the colours and details. Funny how "quality" can be so subjective though. In my country, a Second Hand Gopro Hero 3 (in any edition) still costs more than a brand new SJCAM SJ5000X Elite. So the choice is simple for me :-) Thanks for the video comparison.

I dont know! Besides your opinion (which i totally respect), i didnt see any goods in the sj cam. The details in the grass at the start of the video are muddy. The colors are way too oversaturated (Especially the blue). Even contrast was not good. The Sky has much blown out whites. The Image stabilization does no good job if i compare it to the go pro it looks so shaky and nervous. I dont have an action cam right now, but i am searching for one. I dont like the price of the go pro, but after hours of research i came to the point that you only get what you pay for :-( (Sorry for my english, i dont speak it very well, and i dont want to offend anybody or anything, cheers)

I think the Sj4000 Wifi is the same quality as the hero 3 but the sj5000 x elite gives the hero 4 a competition, but hero 4 is the top of the line, the real 4k that can shoot decent, and sj5000 x elite is only interpolated 4k, so not real :/ but i still would buy the sjcam sj5000, watch my videos most new ones are from my sj4000 :), heard theres eken H9 shoots really good videos for the price u pay

перешарплено все.. и внастройках камеры нельзя полностью отключить шарпинг и шумода. на уровне прошивки видео портачится что после нормальных камер на картинку SJCAM смотреть больно. что 2к, что 4к- интерполяция -чистый маркетинг ни чего не имеющий общего с реальность, гиростаб тоже не аппаратный, а софтовый. Изменение угла обзора-обычный кроп с матрицы, при чем к 70 градусам особо ужасен. при плохом освещении идет падение частоты кадров до 30 к/сек. ощутимо греется. Сильный нагрев камеры сводит к нулю использование ее как видеорегистратора. Короче нужно ждать нормальную прошивку или брать только GоРro или Sony. конкурентом последним эта камера может стать если убрать все "улучшалки" что накладываются процессором. К плюсам можно отнести цвет, контраст, резкость картинки- не плохо, но все что перечислено выше убивает достоинства и уводит в минус отношение к этому продукту. Про звук молчу- это не главное требование к экшенкамере, да и при желании в домашних условиях можно припаять разъем 3.5 или нормальный микрофон даже из гарнитуры мобилки. RAW это вообще танцы с бубнами..
