I have this camera and also the sj4000 wifi I use them for metal detecting videos where they need to be able to stand up to the dirt and elements, my first was the 4000 which doesn't have the option of attaching an external mic so I stripped it down and added my own jack and attached the external mic with a wind muff and this has served me well with just one spare battery,. I then bought this camera because of the external mic option but found I couldn't get the same wind free sound quality with the external mic so that is something to keep in mind,also I was glad it came with 3 batteries as it has a poor battery life but this may be improved if you turn off front screen but then perhaps you need the front screen. All in all it is a good camera with some great functions compared to forking out a lot of £ for a go pro Thanks for the review Russel well explained Regards Alex

Hi Alex, I do not have the external mic for my camera. I have used this camera a lot since I got it and I find the battery life to be pretty good. It is good to know that the external mic may not live up to people's expectations. I think that the camera will only work with mics sold by SJCAM, so they should look into that. I love this camera, great video and lots of features. It is my go to camera for filming on the move. Thank you for taking the time to comment. :-)

This is advice to anyone who plans on purchasing this camera or has purchased this camera. Turn off the front LCD screen or your battery life will be greatly diminished. I recently was given this camera to test and found battery life was terrible until I did this. Then it was actually pretty good. I will be posting a video today of it compared to the akaso ek7000 which has quite a cult following. The akaso is a good camera for less but this camera for about 30 to $40 more is far superior in many ways.

I took mine on holiday with me and was very happy with it. The video is great, but if you want to record sound, it needs to be out of the water proof case and in the plastic frame for the microphone to be much use. I would say that this is the case for all action cameras though. The sound quality on my videos was fine, but not as good as my camcorder.

Hello! Thank you for the video I liked it, but why the video shoot shows the film is wide and circular when walking and moving the camera shows the vertical angles in the form of semi-circular Is it related to the selection of the position of photography or something is its normal

I am not quite sure what you are asking. I think that you are talking about the 'fish eye' effect of the wide angle lens. This makes the outer edges of the video curve so straight lines appear to be curved. There is a setting on the camera to reduce this fish eye effect it is called Distortion Correction. the fish eye effect can also be removed with video editing software if the software has that feature. I hope this has answered your question. :-)

The sound recording is not too bad. It is useless if the camera is in the waterproof casing, but that is the same for all action cameras. I took this camera on holiday with me and was impressed with the video and sound. The sound is not as good as my camcorder, but better than the other action cameras I have.

well I`m very dissapointed with this camera...blury video on FULL HD, audio acerige unless you buy ext. mic...battery below averige so I had to buy 4 additional batteries, and I had to buy remote so I don`t heat "click" whan I pres stop rec...etc..etc...

Sorry but truthfully I wouldn't spend some £120 on a "Go Pro" type clone to be bolted on the front of my car or bike with no zoom capabilities etc. For that sort of money I'd be expecting a bridge camera of sorts. Have a look at "Erkona 1080P Waterproof Action Camera Camcorder DV and 32gb microSD" for £30 shipped from a UK source on Ebay, if it gets a knock or dropped its no great loss.

I have no intention of strapping it to my car. The only reason i did that was for some reasonably fast footage on rough ground for the review. I would have attached it to my drone, but I have already ruined my GoPro with that, so decided the car was a better option! I am more likely to use it on my narrow boat or attached to my body if I am messing about in the garden.

If you're feeling flush it'd be interesting for you to test that Erkona, (its got a free 32gb Sd card after all) against the SJCAM, use the cheaper one where you think the expensive one might come to harm. But then, I think you've already done videos like that on your channel. :)

The best way to keep people waiting is to not tell them until @ 6 minutes in, that it isn't actual 4k. What a waste of time for a "4k" camera review.

Yes, I am sorry about that. I think I had it in the beginning when I first started editing, but cut it out by mistake when I was trying to reduce the length of the video. I should have paid more attention. It is technically a 4K camera, but I realise that interpolated 4K is not the same as native 4K.
