As someone who has done mild work to their GROM, let me save any of you from wasting money. If you aren't willing to go "all in" with the 181 kit, you are far better off doing nothing to the engine. The return in gain is so minimal on anything other than a full "superbike" level build, all you get is a loud bike. Chassis is where the best return on investment is achieved.

This Grom wasn't mine but from a friend. He bought it this way. The previous owner probably spend a lot of money because everything was changed. You're right if you say de gain might not be worth the time/money. I'm not sure what it had cost. But it sure was fast, way faster than the standard Grom!

@@sjeffsjef I priced out the full Takegawa set up, including the 5 speed kit. It was over $3,000 in parts alone. I had said I wouldn't do anything less, but went ahead and did minor motor work. It runs better than stock, but not by much. Starting with such small power numbers, incremental bumps just doesn't bring the satisfaction for money spent. I'm a bit over half the "superbike" Takegawa budget. I always try to tell people to learn fro my mistake and will let another GROM owner ride mine to see the back to back difference. While they love the full chassis upgrade, the difference in engine performance gives them a moment of pause. An actual ride sets things in order, dampening the claims of the advertisements.

@StefMV what about other components in the 181? like camshaft, oil pump, oil cooler? Do you have OEM cylinder head or with some porting work? Thanks!

Will this 181 kit make the bike power wheelie? Just cracking the throttle not clutch pop.
@sjeffsjef2 жыл бұрын
No, the kit will not make it power wheelie. It also had a smaller front sprocket (14t) and the bike just accelerates a bit faster. The bike also gains some top speed from the kit.

Thanks man! I'm not sure because it came with the bike when my friend bought it. But I believe it is not a real Akra, but some kind of knock off. Still sounds great though!

Do you think the kit is worht it? i saw it in germany for about 1200 Euro (without ecu etc)
@sjeffsjef4 жыл бұрын
The difference in topspeed and acceleration is significant. So if you really want that extra speed, I would say yes, it's worth it. But still very expensive in comparison to the bike itself..
