Small correction, any of the Sjobergs ELITE benches can be set up for left- or right-handed use. The lesser Sjobergs benches can not be changed, as the face-vise is fixed and the apron is not segmented to facilitate the change. Good video. Thank you.

Steve, I've worked on this exact workbench and it's impressive.

You know what would make this video better, especially for newer cabinet builders? How about an assembly video, especially the cabinets that go under the bench. The directions are almost useless, like IKEA furniture.

Not to be critical, but the Elite line requires assembly only on the pedestals. The instructions have no words, just pictures; and they convey what needs to be done quite sufficiently.

@@freddiemercurious Three year old post. Mine came in pieces, entirely. Entirely in IKEA like pieces. Pieces, no pedestal only (pedestal?) thingee. Not to be critical.

@@pinkiewerewolf I was not aware of that. My apologies. Frankly, I wondered about the ability of folks in general when they commented negatively about the instructions. Thanks for the clarification. My bench arrived in 2021. I guess things have changed.

Question: I have one of these Elite 2000 benches. I want the height to match my saw stop table saw but this bench is about 1 1/4 inches higher than the saw. I'm thinking of shortening the legs from the bottom by and inch and a quarter. Any issues with this that you know of?
@HighlandWoodworking

We are not aware of anyone altering the height of the bench, so we can't advise you on what to pay close attention to in such an endeavor. It may be more involved than just shortening legs if you are in the area of the joinery of the vertical and horizontal leg pieces. So plan it out and understand what may be impacted before making cuts. Also, before you proceed, be certain the adjusted height won't cause you distress (backache) when doing hand work on the new lower height bench top. That would be an unfortunate consequence. You could make a light weight sub top (a pine frame skinned with 1/4" plywood) that you just lay on top of the bench to "shim" the surface when you need the bench as an out feed table. You may be able to have a cleat on the underside of the sub top that would hold in the vise to immobilize the sub top while in use. When not in use, you can hang it on the wall or store it below the bench top. SawStop has a new folding outfeed table coming out later this fall that you may want to consider as a ready made option for an outfeed support on your saw. www.sawstop.com/new-options

Why not raise the saw? You can always undo it later, but it's more difficult to lengthen a wooden base after it's been cut.

Just make a 1 1/4” shim/base for the saw.

Thank you for sharing your views about this lovely Swedish workbench. I think you've put all it's salient features rather well. I would like to reply to Mr. "christschool"'s idiotic comments. How dare he criticise an object that he obviously doesn't even know? I very much doubt that he ever built a workbench himself. I have thirty three years of European cabinet-making and restoration experience, and no decent cabinet_maker I know would talk in such terms. Ignorance is a very painful and regretable ailment. I just hope you can seek some help to cure you. Try lifting a 392 lb toy by yourself and then come back to us old chap. We can all have a good laugh.

You don't want the bench to scoot, move or wobble he says, and you can clearly see it's moving when he applies pressure to it. :P It's probably the leggs that arn't massive enough.

On the commercials for these you can see when people are planing something big you conveniently can't see the bottom of the bench. It's shameless. These are too small to take that level of force- you need 3x3 or 4x4 for that.

It is pronounced "Sjöberg", not "So-berg". The "sj"-sound is a gentle variant of the kind your mouth makes when blowing out candles. "Ö" sounds similar to saying "err" (as in pausing midway in an English sentence), but prolonged. The "-g" at the end of "-erg" is pronounced like "y" in "yarn".

Depth is too shallow, no tool tray, and it look short unless you get the leg extenders. I guess that's why he's on his knees half the time. I can't see working at this for more than an hour before developing aching neck and shoulders. I've tried the vises--very nice, but no quick release? Once you've tried a quick release vise, you never go back.

In my opinion, these aren't worth the money. However, if you to buy a bench rather then build one, this is one of the best. However, for 1/4 of the money, you can build a much better, functional and more substantial bench than this. Next to a hand-built bench, this thing looks and feels like a toy.
