Skagway, Alaska, Gold Rush History, Vintage Locomotive
Skagway is a compact city in southeast Alaska, set along the popular cruise route the Inside Passage. It's home to gold-rush-era buildings, now preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad runs vintage locomotives past the famously steep Chilkoot trail and offers sweeping mountain views during its climb toward Canada.
More About Our Tour:
We took a 10-day Carnival Miracle Cruise to Alaska. We visited Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait, Tracy Arm Fjord, and Prince Rupert on our way. Visited the Mendenhall and Sawyer Glaciers, saw a lot of wildlife, and had some great food there.

Day 5: Skagway - • Skagway Excursion, Ala...
Gold seekers stampeded to the Klondike more than 100 years ago and built Skagway; today, the town is more of a time capsule from the past, with carefully preserved buildings and streets brimming with history. We will do the historic train ride and visit some remote island areas.
Doing light hiking, visiting a waterfall, walking in the city.
Day 5: Icy Strait Point
First thing in the morning, we go for a whale watch, later do the world's largest and tallest zipline ride, walk in the woods, and encounter a bear.
Day 7: Tracy Arm Fjord
One of the most spectacular cruise destinations on earth, Tracy Arm Fjord comprises two separate fjords. Each fjord is over 30 miles long, and one-fifth of its area is ice-covered. With hundreds of waterfalls, giant chunks of sliding ice, and a huge variety of native wildlife, you won’t even want to blink as you cruise past this natural wonder.
Day 8: Prince Rupert, BC
Prince Rupert, British Columbia, is a little more laid back, and less bustling than other places, thanks to its nickname: “The City of Rainbows.” It may have more to do with the climate, but the name still fits, with welcoming, photo-worthy natural sights that even the frequently moist weather can’t dampen. It’s easy to be this beautiful with a cast of local wildlife like Prince Rupert has, with grizzly bears, humpback whales, and eagles making up just a few of the stars. The local museums are another spot to get a feel for the area, whether it’s art, culture, or railroads you’re into. And definitely stop into the local shops and restaurants proud to serve fresh-caught local delicacies.
