I'm so excited for this season. Season 4 has to be my favorite season along with season 3. I feel like I can relate to Sana a lot. Growing up in Germany as a Turkish muslim, it always felt like I'm foreign to both sides of my upbringing. In some ways I had two personalities as in the muslim girl who is "different" than other conservative muslims, and the muslim girl who is trying to be the perfect muslim (which is not possible). It took me a while to understand that I don't need to choose one side but that I can be a part of both. Sana broke through a lot of stereotypes non muslims had over muslim and muslim women in general. It helped a lot with making people understand each other. Sana is character that is really close to my heart and I'm so happy that you guys like her as well! ❤️ Have fun with the rest of the show!

Interesting! I am a white Norwegian myself but I live in a muslim majority area of Oslo so I am kind of seeing this stuff from the outside. In fact I've seen several of the muslim SKAM guys as well as Sana around in the area I live. Got a mosque 2 minutes walk from my house. It is something we have to deal with, like what sort of food our kids friends can or cannot eat. Sometimes it is a problem that smaller muslim kids don't quite know what halal food is. Also I notice it is difficult to navigate a multi-cultural society also for muslims because many have this simple imagined divide between the muslim and christian world. But in Norway most people don't believe in God, including me. So although we are culturally related to the Christian faith, celebrating Christmas etc we don't actually follow the faith. The muslim kids around here will ask me if I am muslim or christian but when I say I am nothing they are profoundly confused. When we have muslim kids over and their mom had said they cannot eat Christian food, it is kind of hard to relate to. Like what is that? My wife is Asian-American and we eat a weird mix of food from different cultures. I don't think of our food as "Christian". Likewise I don't think of any food as muslim food. I think of food as being Turkish, Maroccon, Lebanese, Indian etc. Related to a culture/nation but not a faith.

Kinda salty that I cant binge the entire season of reactions right now. This was so good! Also lmao at my boy who thought sneaking out at 21 isnt sneaking out. Man when you got brown parents, or in my case, black Caribbean parents that is definitely a thing. I was 19 and still felt the pressure to ask to go out because going out was such a regulated thing all my life. Even now when I say I wanna go out in my late 20s its a game of 21 questions but back in my teens it was worse. What are you going out to do? Where are you going? How are you getting there? How are you getting home? Whats the number of the person(s) taking you there and bringing you home? Gotta be able to tell the police if you go missing. Who's gonna be there? Who are their parents? Get me their numbers. Oh you're going with a friend? Let me call their parents to see what they think about this outing. And you better have the answers to these questions before you ask permission to go or they'll say no. Oh and you cant have anything outstanding in your chores either. Did mom ask you to clean the living room and you havent done it? Dont bother asking to go anywhere. Is your room dirty? Clean it before you ask because "If you got time to hang out you have time to clean your room." Honestly these controlling parents make you never want to go anywhere and then brag to their friends that you're a quiet child who stays at home while also making fun of you to their friends that you never go out and meet people like they have nothing to do with it.
@povelvieregg1655 жыл бұрын
ZariDV you can watch the whole SKAM season 4 know, but of course we got to wait for the Normies reactions. I watched season 4 long time ago and I was a big fan. So for me it is fun to sort of re-live the moments. Interesting to see how people from another culture react to it. It is funny I can actually relate to some of the things you say, despite being a white Norwegian. My parents were a lot more strict than other Norwegian parents, so while I didn't have an issue going out, I could definitely not be open about going out drinking and partying. I also had to be home much earlier than other teenagers. I have also read about Norwegians who have grown up in a very strict Christian home can relate to Sana. While my life of course was totally different than Sana's it is odd how much I could still relate and empathize with in her story. I think that is what is cool with Skam. For every character there is something you can relate to either because you experienced it yourself or because you know people who experienced it.

Interesting to hear about all the limits or rules that come with having brown parents. Kind of similar to my experience but also quite different. I don't relate to the identity crisis that gets caused by wanting to be like your american (or norwegian for Sana) friends and also wanting to meet your parents expectations because I just grew up in the same culture and country my parents grew up in(we live Germany) but what I do relate to is the rules. My parents always want to know where I go with who and when I'm coming back and how am I gonna come back etc. Even now (I'm 22) I still get those questions. I had to write down phone numbers and adresses of my friends so my parents would allow me to go to them. If I spent a lot of time with someone (anyone the gender didn't matter) my parents kept asking for them to come over so they could meet them. I don't think the rules are 100% comparable because I was allowed to go out but compared to my friends around me it felt like I lived in a prison. Which is why none of my friends ever wanted to meet up at my house but they had to because otherwise I wasn't allowed to go anywhere with them.
@lisenormann41025 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that's how I grew up, and I'm ethnic Norwegian. But I've always had a feeling my mom was a bit stricter than other parents, maybe because she was a single mom and had to raise me by herself.
@oiskypoisky26745 жыл бұрын
@@lisenormann4102 Yeah maybe. I think my parents just had a certain vision of what's allowed in their book and never considered any other option. But my siblings and I are functioning humans in our society so I feel like they did a pretty good job. My friends always called my mom strict too but for me that was so normal. As much as I hated it I also don't understand how other parents would just let their child go anywhere without knowing. I don't have kids but that would make me insane. Maybe my rules will be less strict for my kids but I do wanna know when and how they come back or where they are going. But the whole meeting thing seems a bit unnecessary to me. But maybe that'll change once I am in it.

apparently norway is not very religion based so not just seeing muslims is strange or different but people of any religion period. i remember a scene with sana being frustrated (i use that loosely) and talking about being muslim in a godless country she called norway lol. and also isak assuming mahdi would be homophobic because he also assumed he was muslim but he was not, on both accounts.
@povelvieregg1655 жыл бұрын
As a Norwegian I can tell you am very used to seeing muslims. In fact most of my neighbors are muslim. However we do of course to a large degree live in parallel worlds and don't know much about what life is like inside each family and group. I mean what you see a lot here is Vilde is basically uttering a lot of the common misconceptions we may have about muslims in Norway. Of course the average Norwegians don't have as many muslim neighbors as me, but everybody meets a muslim in some capacity, either working at the grocery store, driving the taxi, bus or subway. Many muslim work in the health care sector, retirement homes etc as well. But yeah most of us Norwegians aren't very religious so it is alien to us with a culture where religion is so central to your identity.
