Ok, so let me see if I got this right. I have no experience throwing knives at all, but I have some theoretical knowledge on similar concepts in sword fighting with certain blades like viking age swords or the Russian Shashka. Essentially, it's an entirely inertia based technique, where you start off with a quick twitch muscle movement to get the motion going and then just let the momentum carry the arm through the motion. The arm would act like a trebuchet to pass its momentum on to the knife, with the hand acting as the sling. It also makes sense why you would want to release as early as possible. Since your arm isn't following through, timing the point of release to be just right would be nigh impossible and there is no reason to hold on to the blade either way, since you want it to start sliding as soon as your hand can no longer impart any momentum. The section about joints also makes sense. After the initial burst, the entire motion needs to be passive and having static force on any part of the arm will put excessive tension on the joints.

Great video! One of the things I observed was the hole in the handle, when I attempted the loose grip pinching my thumb and second finger the knife tended to fall out of my hand. My knives are heavy and can see how the hole helps to grip the knife. Will be drilling holes in the handle to assist in holding the knife. This is the best instructional video I have seen on KZbin!

I'm learning this too. I have only found success when I tell myself to "pull with the body; push with the finger." My wave and my arm do the pulling. This must end when I get close to the apex. I then push with my finger. I am not sure where the finger start-point is in relation to the balance of the knife. I think that we can learn from this if we listen carefully enough. The release must be early as heck. The wrist must do much of the work. The inertia must move to the tip of the knife. Start with light knives. We should avoid reliance on stepping, big arm movements (wide radius), stabilizing the wrist, and most of all, old habits. One final thing, Olga leads with her wrist at the beginning of her swing. We should probably follow that example.

What they were trying to say, I think, was OVEREXTENTION of the shoulder and elbow is a common problem with the standard overhand throwing style. Not a problem with the Fedin technique. More power, less exertion. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I ever make it to Moscow, I'm definitely gonna look you guys up for a lesson! 🤙

Hi Adam, i got a question for you folks over there. How do you keep your blades nice and sharp? Do you recommend any sharpening tools, or do you do it the old fashioned way with a stone? Asking cause I'm poor and can't afford an industrial machine. Keep up the great work, man.

And I believe the description they are searching for is ""like a whip...lol" either way looking good fellas! Funny I did exactly that when throwing sideways automatically I just found out but I never tried it out yet to do for further distances. Actually you could say from the arm, hand and even finger movement it’s similar to tennis or table tennis. Maybe this helps some people for beginning.
