Skating isn’t just about tricks, if it was then we would play a game with a textureless character and a blank map and just do tricks all day. People get bored with the lack of free content from f2p games and don’t like spending 10 dollars for a hoodie and trying to cope and saying the f2p model is better for the game because people will cheat is ridiculous. Forza horizon is a game that you pay for and can get 90 percent of the content through progression and it doesn’t matter that people cheat to get better items because you can earn the rewards with enough effort and time.

The only reason the free to play model is making people worried it because it isn't likely there'll be a singleplayer mode. Skate has never been a multiplayer game despite it having the function because its not competitive. If you at other free to play games in the world, almost all are designed for people to win and lose. But skate is mainly a designed for casual players. As much as a free to play game model makes sense for Fortnite or valorant, I don't think skate will make it very far

A game like halo reach was so sick and had a deep progression system where that exclusivity that you talked about came from completing hard challenges like beating campaign on the highest difficulty netting you master chiefs armor than people would see you and wonder how to get those cosmetics. Compared to modern games where I see people with unique cosmetics and think they’re spoiled brats cause I’m not dropping 3.99$ for a pink shirt. If they do some form of currency needed to buv cosmetics, hopefully they pull a DMC5 and make a good way to farm that currency. Capcom forced Itsuno, the director, to add micro transactions into the game. So Itsuno created a specific weapon for Dante to be used in fast farming of the currency as a big middle finger to the micro transactions. Hopefully the devs do something like that here, design the game in a way to make those microtransactions useless.

Difference is DMC5 was an actual full priced game with access to all its content regardless of if you buy DLC or not. There’s a big difference between a full priced game with DLC and a free to play game where everything in the game is DLC

Too be fair they said it wouldnt be “pay to win” and included a list of things you won’t have to pay for, such as maps, tricks, or anything that will improve your skating. In other words all the payments will be for cosmetics. And i think they may have also said that everything that can be bought can also be earned though grinding but i could be wrong about the “everything” part.
