You’ve put every single thought and feeling I have of this game into this video. Kept an eye on this game since its development, but forgot all about it as soon as XL dropped. Then the gameplay trailer dropped and I was intrigued. Bought the game, and was surprised the graphics held up to the trailer. Learning the controls was a pain but knowing how well the game could look if played well kept me going. Seeing the stats list for the first time stretched my grin a bit further. Once the controls came naturally and I could flow through a line down the street, this game became the greasiest skate game ever for me. Learning the clip editor and spending the time to figure out how to make realistic edits is the icing on the cake, and what gives the game so much more playability. You don’t just want to land your tricks/lines, you want it to look *real* I’ll see something and go “alright Im doing that.” I’ll spend anywhere from 5-45 mins to get that line or trick, but once I stick it, I’m only half way there. Gotta stick it 3 or 4 more times until you get a perfect line for a clip. Then you need 5 or 6 more clips for a decent vid/edit. I’ve been through most of the maps the game has to offer and know most of the layout, but so much of the map is new to my skill set. The better you get at the game, the more places/objects you notice are skateable/worth trying. So many times I’ll roll up to a spot and go “oh shit, I remember this place from my first day learning controls, but this time, I’m ready.” Side note, I put XL on the other day just for old times sake, made it maybe 5 mins before I turned it off and made some room on my hard drive You also earned a sub, this content is great man. Your editing is great, you’re hilarious, and above all you clearly put effort into your vids and it really shows. Have no doubt you’ll blow up soon

yeah, ive had my eye on this game for awhile too. sadly they took a huge sacrafice in what they wanted the physics to be like. originaly they couldnt get grinds to work. they didnt take into consideration the sides of the wheels needed physics to spin in order for grinds to slide better. because wheels shift/turn ever so slightly in grinds that if they didnt the grind would just lock up when it needed to.

Session helped me become a better skater. I changed many of the settings to make things slower, low to the ground, and as close to my current skill level as possible. When I go from skating irl to hopping on Session (and vise versa) it feels like the skate sesh never ended. I’ve learned how to time out my pops and flicks better by how I do it in Session.

Learning switch is like a rite of passage for this game. The 'Skateshop Meetup' mission will make or break all skaters who cross its path. For those who don't know its a 'line' challenge (all tricks done in sequence without falling) that first introduces switch tricks into the story missions. It's brutal. Got a ton of games on my Steam Deck but I always gravitate to booting up Session and cruising around hitting random spots until something grabs my attention and I drop my marker and practice that line over and over.

@@fuchsia4326 my experience with skateboarding is actually similar to this guys, and for me it just was not something in my physical wheelhouse. I’m tall with long ass legs and giant feet so balance was always a major issue. Also I just wasn’t coordinated enough with my feet to make meaningful progress. I started in middle school and spent almost a year trying to Ollie with no success, just couldn’t make it work. Eventually I got seriously into basketball and didn’t feel like risking injury anymore. I still skated as transportation and to cruise around through high school, still appreciated and enjoyed skate culture, but I gave up on ever doing tricks.

@@amolveira ah i know what you mean man. respect to your preferences, but imagine someone short with tiny hands saying they gave up on basketball after a year because they think they were just physically incapable. enough time and they could probably lay up right? and skating is like basketball but you can choose the ball and the court and the net! proper guiding and board (and mindset) i reckon you could learn something. i’m 6 ft, size 13+ shoes, in middle school i also rode around for over a year unable to wrap my head around an ollie. years later it’s looking much better.

@@amolveira Were you practicing alone? Did you go to skateparks with other people around? I caught on to almost everything athletic and yet it took me over a year to be able to kickflip, maybe closer to 2 years. Once I learned them I got much more into skateboarding, but learning the first few tricks isn't easy, no matter how coordinated you are. I've done dirt BMX, unicycling, juggling, snowskating, snowboarding, etc but skateboarding is definitely the toughest to catch onto. Skating is a thing that anyone can get better at if they try in my opinion. We all have a different 'ceiling' of ability, but I'd imagine most people can learn to ollie and 180 if they're determined. The thing is, is getting started is incredibly hard and I watched COUNTLESS people, athletic or not, give up relatively quickly because they don't want to put in the effort without seeing progress for a while.

Totally agree with all the sentiment - the "when it clicks" feeling is what makes skating in real life so satisfying. I did debate whether to turn on the manual catch setting, but honestly, I don't think it's something anyone actually actively does in real life - the catch comes, for me at least, because I've popped and flicked the kickflip or whatever correctly. So for that reason I left it off. Definitely for realism and not because I don't want to make the game any harder, hah!

As a 3D artist I can tell you that if you just put a hat over the geometry of hair (which is usually one sided planes with decals) you get weird clipping of the hair trough the hat. Other way that looks much nicer is to model the hairstyle by hand with the hat, which means, every single hat, with every single hairstyle must be recreated to fit. Since the game doens't even have a story, and even tho it looks good, pretty basic enviorment modeling, I am sure they didn't want to spend their resources there :) -To add, I LOVE SESSION, it is all you said, a perfect realistic skateboarding simulator thats insanely rewarding when you learn, it flows, it slaps, it tre flips, u create ur own spotify skate rap playlist and you are GOOD! (pharcyde, blackstarr, and thps soundtracks to give idea). Cinematic editor is crazy also. The only downside and its really a big one is, NO MULTIPLAYER.... I ended up playing a lot of Riders Republic with my friend, just because we couldn't shred together in Session, they need to add that!

Session is darn close to being the skateboarding sim I imagined not long after THPS 2 first inspired me to step on a board for real. There are obvious and large omissions; no freestyle and no vert; but it does what it does very well. It’s 100 percent a game of skill, which is a rare thing in the days of grinding hours and hours for unlocks and loot. It’s just you, your board, and the city. I love that you can completely ignore the story and challenges, because honestly that is the weakest part of the game. But just rolling around the city, discovering new spots and trying new tricks on them is something I can do for hours and hours.

No king that’s yours! Cheers mat! Yea let’s hope the don’t fumble it x

my understanding was that they didn't call it skate 4 because they weren't necessarily making a sequel to the previous games. they're making a completely new experience while using the formula they had from the old games and revising it.

Great video, this game is so slept on, it’ll take over when it gets multiplayer, it’s barely getting started

I enjoy skater xl more because it’s harder to make look good, but when it does look good it looks amazingly good.

Been playing session for a couple years now, probably my favorite skating game of all time
@Mybzrecords Жыл бұрын
Session is stunning. Took literally like 24 hours to understand the controls. Totally worth it. I am never finna skateboard in my life again.

Session is everything I ever wanted from a skateboarding game. If they took it and turned into a smooth functioning mmo somehow. I’d be in a paradise.

i absolutely hated Session the first few times i played it. i was deep in the skater XL rabbit hole at the time, and i still prefer modded SXL to session mostly because modded SXL still feels smoother and controls better, but Session has come unbelievably far since it first launched in early access. and due to the fact that the SXL devs seem to have abandoned it, i'll probably be moving on over to session full time. i just hope someone makes a mod for session that changes its switch/fakie controls to match SXL's controls. also i really hate session's manny reverts. like a lot. it makes no sense at all. if i'm doing a manual and i revert, i'm not suddenly putting my weight on my other foot, so why do i have to start using my other stick to nose manny after a revert? its the same foot i'm balancing on, why do the sticks have to change? its just bizarre. same with switch/fakie. the controls for SXL make way more sense in this regard. if i ride regular, but am currently rolling goofy and i pull down on the right thumbstick to set up a trick, it makes more sense for that to be a fakie ollie than a switch ollie if pulling down on the right stick is supposed to be me setting up my right foot. but in session, that is a switch ollie. a fakie kickflip in SXL controls is a switch heelflip in Session. i don't like it at all. its just a really weird quirk of session's controls that deeply irritates me. it could be that maybe i just prefer SXL's controls because that's how i learned left stick right stick skate game controls so its hard for me to unlearn that to get good at session, but i also just think its far more intuitive and accurate to do it the way SXL does. i will say however that session's replay editor blows SXL's out of the water. its incredible to me that easy day hasn't bothered to update the replay editor at all since it was added, and it getting added was literally just the devs integrating SXL's most popular mod at the time into the base game. easy day is an absolutely idiotically run company. all this said, i'm extremely disabled and have always had a deep love for skateboarding ever since i was like 8 and i played the first tony hawk game but could never actually skate myself, so the fact that i now have two very good skateboarding simulators is like a dream come true for me.

I like playing with the out-of-box settings, good mix of challenging and simulation without being too difficult for me as someone who doesn’t skate irl. I personally raised the high pop height 1 or 2 ticks, made it juuuuusst a bit easier to grind some of the higher barriers and rails for me at least.

A week ago I thought, “yeah I’ll try session”. Well after playing 8 hours in two nights it’s all I think of LOL what a game! Challenging and rewarding all at the same time if I could just figure out how to make clips and how to save them I’d be ever more thrilled

I really like the fact I can do a muska style fs flip, or an Andrew Reynolds style one. I have the a choice of how my trick looks and that is rad. Style is an important aspect of a creative sport like skateboarding and I love seeing a game with controls to choose when- and how- we flip, catch the board, the speed of the rotation, the ability to catch and twist at the hips to finish the rotation… this is how all skate games controls need to be.

i randomly bought this game and your video is so accurate and i absolutely agree and i love this game man, i personally dont shred that much but i used to skate too but its not popular in my country. But this game makes me feel like I'm really skating digitally and close to reality if that makes sense lmao. Its not an easy game but when it clicks it clicks, and fun to play while getting high af and vibin to the ingame raggae music. Thats the Shit!

I only played Tony hawks pro skater and thps 2. I skateboarded from 1999-2011 once children came in to the picture. I started skateboarding again couple years ago. I live in Vegas, summer time is hard to skate. Session came in clutch for that. Helps when I can't go skateboard. Great game, looks good. I highly recommend. Skateboarding till i die.

Yea I have a lot of time put into this game. Currently on 10 days and 19 hours of gameplay according to my Xbox (not counting the many hours played during the beta launch). its a challenging game at first but very rewarding. its now my relaxing/turn brain off game. The maps are are also real locations to scale so a fun way to play is finding the historical challenges which are legendary tricks done by pro skaters in each map. The story mode is a little brief but devs said there might be new content in the future.

When this game first dropped the guy behind it was speaking about the project and you could just tell it was a passion project. And if you arent familiar with those it’s gonna be a blazer because the devs are doing it for the good of the product not just for a quick buck. They started breaking down how there are historic spots in the game where if you do the exact trick a legendary skater did there you’re rewarded for example Eric Kosta’s heel flip over the white Honda at the Brooklyn banks. From then I knew they were going to make a game for skaters and not for a dollar
