If you never seen pre-PRE alpha gameplay this is very ahead of its time simply because The textures can be placed fast, the whole map is pretty much done. All you gotta do is place the already made textures into the already made buildings, ground, objects etc then it becomes Pre-Alpha. They smooth out the texture glitches and glitches caused by the pre-Alpha in the Alpha then when all of that is fixed it becomes a Beta. (the closest thing to the released title) In the Beta they are suppose to find more glitches usually by letting players test out the game before the Release Version which is usually called a 1.0 Compared to other games like 7DaysToDie, Ark, dayz etc. they barely ever left the Alpha stage just to go into beta or standalone release calling it a "work in progress".....5-7 years later they leave Alpha after selling the game for years as is. Your complaint sounds like you are used to those Alpha / Pre-Alpha games being released to hook into your wallet immediately with a barely finished game.

In the last developer table meet they said console testing was coming next year. While I don't think it'll be at the beta stage, it should be further from the alpha we currently see. 3D department probably has been churning out stuff that we haven't even seen since they aren't necessarily held back from current development process. I think they are purposefully withholding textured content cuz playtest state of map ≠ actual state of map; they are just focusing on the actual map textures separately so it hopefully blows the lowering expectations the community has voiced. It makes no sense to have nobody working on maps while they iron out actual gameplay through playtests/development when its something that can be worked on now. So I could see them doing something along the lines of what the Skate 3 demo was for console playtests. A section of the main map skatable for playtests fully textured but limited to a particular skatable area. I doubt they'd playtest on console with environments looking like they do now, when they can release a playtest with something that looks close to final product and create a "re-hype" for the game launch. All this is speculation though. This is EA after all... any common sense can be thrown out the window, but I choose to hold just a little hope with how differently they've approached developing this game. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

Honestly I'm glad there isn't a release date or even an estimated release date yet, to me it seems they're still working on nailing the physics and controls of the game which is super important for a skate game. The fact that there isn't textures on most of the terrain tells me the map layout and building designs aren't necessarily final yet either, it would suck to spend a bunch of time and effort on textures only for the buildings to change later and having to do it all over again. We're seeing early development, the kind of that's usually left hidden, most companies would still have the game under wraps, or maybe have teased it, but because they want this game to feel like it's made by and for the community they want you to be along for the ride. There's still lots and lots to do so getting a release date in the near future would probably mean rushed content, terrible working environment for the devs and a buggy mess on launch. They definitely have a goal for when they imagine the game might be finished but keeping that a secret is a smart move, it means less outside pressure and no public disappointment if they need to push back the release.

@@QGUU Sure it looks barely any different, because, as they've written over the footage, it's still in pre-alpha, they're not focusing on making the game look good yet because it's a low priority at this stage. The game needs to *feel* right, if the physics and animations are off it'll also *feel* off, and getting game physics to feel great is incredibly difficult; it consists of small tweaks that are hard to spot just looking at gameplay but make a world of difference when playing. It's an intricate balancing act where even the slightest change in one piece affects the whole puzzle. If you consider how many modes of traverse they've shown to be part of the game it really isn't surprising that it takes a long time. They aren't at the point in development where the visuals happen, you wouldn't paint a house when you're still building the frame. Games always take a long time, but we're used to first seeing games much closer to them being complete, usually the first gameplay trailers will be of a damn-near finished game. That's why I'm glad to see the game in this state, this isn't shiny trailers to build hype for launch, this is the dev team sharing their progress with the community. These kinds of updates are common for crowd funded games, it's exciting to see such a big project being presented in this way.
