After the drop in, roll in is one of the worst mental battles for skaters. Really like the way how the progression is presented to us...

And likewise one of the most ridiculous things to freak out about. Same as dropping in, you psych yourself out until you finally get it down and then when you do it you’re like, “that’s it?”

@@markgaddini9538 I got to where I am comfortable rolling in on 2 - 3 foot transitions. The park I'm usually riding has a mini bowl with a twinkie protruding from the side which gives you the opportunity to just roll over the coping but not direct into the transition. That gave me confidence to know what it will feel like and now I don't mind rolling in on the small stuff. But dang, I go up to the combi bowl with a 6" transition and all of a sudden, it's like an abyss. BTW, it's a HUGE difference when riding 58mm wheels. Using 58's, the risk of hanging up is MUCH lower since they are large enough to stop your king pin from hitting too hard if you don't take the weight off your back trucks. Sorry to ramble, old guy skater here and I over analyze everything to reduce risks at the park so I can make it to work. LOL!
@TheTilde

Good video. I'd like to emphasize that it should be tried on a soft curve first. And not to hurry trying it on a deeper curve. Only do it on a deeper curve when the manual over the copping is consistent. And I think that in addition to knee pads some wrist protections may help too.

awesome! I just wish there was a bank with a coping in a park nearby, or at least a very small transition. I'm too scared to try it directly in a 4 ft ramp 😅

I tried rolling in two years ago and my first couple of times were fine until I over done it missed all the transition and hit my hip So bad that it was black for weeks. I chipped it and now I have a little bone that I can move with my hand on my left hip side. Because of that I’m so scared to try again even know I know it’s a very important move/trick to know how to do in skateboarding, especially transition skating. I try it again here and there but only on smaller and mellower transitions. I even bought my self padded shorts and always wear full gear but still scared. Hope I’ll build that confidence again.

Woww these live instructions are amazingly informative. And the timing is spot on for me😉. When you say 'bumping the back wheels' you mean lifting your back foot so the board can bump up freely and into your feet right?

Great video, rly amps me up to get it done already >:D but what exactly is bumping your backwheels? taking pressure off of them?
@SkateparkLessons
@SkateparkLessons 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, gently hop your weight off your board so it can bump off the coping and kick up into your feet 💙🛹💙
2 жыл бұрын
How do you do the "hop" you're talking about in the video? You're doing a short manual to get the front wheels over the coping, but what happens then? :) I guess you need to get the weight off your back wheels by jumping somehow, right?
@NeilHesterSkateboarding
@NeilHesterSkateboarding 2 жыл бұрын
Just a gentle hop as if you are bumping over a crack in the pavement. If you are not sure how this feels find a street with gaps in the paving and ride along it and feel the timing to manual and hop as you hit the gap or crack and you will feel a little bounce.

Has anyone managed this on a surfskate? I’m basically only riding a Yow surfskate now in parks and the front tucks are so loose and wobbly that it adds another level of psychological terror!
@SkateparkLessons
@SkateparkLessons Жыл бұрын
Yes you can do it, but if you just create the right normal skateboard setup with really loose trucks with a good turning radius it will basically match a surf skate and weigh less! 💙🛹💙

I just wondering if this exact technics is scalable to lets say 2.5m vertical drop in.... since the backweels bump you cannot dive in and follow the wall. On the other side if you dive to early your back wheels will hang up.

Watching this, I got this feeling that, on a deeper bowl, if you don't compress enough, you'll wind-up falling backwards. Is this correct?

Listen to what you’re saying at 1:40. “Give it a slight hop…” What the hell does that mean?? He’s supposed to hold a manual, then “give it a slight hop??” Give what a hop? You want him to hop into the air so his feet leave the board? From a manual?
@SkateparkLessons
@SkateparkLessons 8 ай бұрын
As I show in my videos, bumping the coping from a manual requires that you take your weight off the board with a slight hop. If you can bump your back wheels over a big crack in a sidewalk then you understand. If not then you need to learn that first.
