I'll be honest, man. I used to compete downhill skiing at insane speeds. I've surfed double overhead breaks. Learning to drop is the scariest thing EVER. Still don't have the nerve, yet. Awesome lesson! I'll get there!

Smart small and wear pads. It looks scary, but I promise that you'll be fine. If you happen to mess up, you'll fall down a bit and get right back up. Falling isn't scary if you know how to bail properly.

Great tip about keeping part of the back foot off the board so the wheels don't start rolling too early on the bank. That was key for me to build confidence with commiting my weight forward. I did 100+ reps on banked surfaces. Finally tried on a small quarter pipe today and dropped in no problem!

I've just just started skating for the first time in my life, aged 41, thanks to my 11 year old son taking it up. I'm now at the stage where I'm comfortable skating and decent at manoeuvring etc. My next stage now is learning transition skating and this video is definitely going to be a masdive help in my learning curve. I might have to put it off til next year though, thanks to the weather in the UK. Plus I need to get a helmet and pads, as I somewhat stupidly refused to wear them when learning to skate. I luckilly came through unscathed though, other than a couple of minor cuts on my hands due to some of my early falls. To anybody out there thinking of taking up skating, dont be like me, get the safety gear from the start, especially if you're older like me, otherwise the psychological fear factor will hold you back and slow up your progression.

hey, dont worry about it, have somebody hold you while you drop in on your first quarter. I did it that way after not being able to do it for 3 months, I did it on banks and I tried it on quarters and sprained my wrist badly. after I did it 3 times with help, I was able to do it alone and increase the height as well by myself, so just have somebody hold your hands (who has the strength to hold you) and commit. you'll be shredding transition in no time. regards from germany.

Same 43 yr old boat, I finally gave up trying at the skate park and built a 2 feet quarter pipe at home, when I master that one I’ll build a 3 feet and after that I will take it to the park. I tried all last summer and just couldn’t commit, one time I tried so hard I kinda passed out, blocked out, and fell straight to the floor, if it wasn’t for the pads I would have been in trouble.

I was so disappointed in myself everytime I left the skatepark because I never tried dropping in but just getting back into skateboarding again after 5 plus years break I finally dropped in last week! It was easier than I thought, I fell forward the first time but the second time I nailed it. It’s so much more fun skating parks now after dropping in. I had a wall to hold onto first to practice then I held my friends arms that really boosted my confidence and I got to feel how the ramp would be before I tried it with no support. It’s like 80 percent commitment and 20 percent skill. I’m not saying that there’s no skill to it but a big part is the commitment

It’s a great lesson. I wish I would have seen when I started skateboarding. In the 90’s I was a teenager skater. I was learning to drop from a mini ramp. I broke my ankle. In the E.R. they said it was just a sprain. They missed diagnosis and it took me a lot to recover but the fear of dropping took more. Even if I could do several flip tricks and skate switchstance, the copying was off limits. Several years later, I committed to drop in on ramp ( I was 32 years old) and I did. I stopped skating. Recently I got back again because of sons, they want to learn to Sk8. I am 47 and I would like to retrain me to drop. I will use your suggestion for the whole family. Thanks for your effort to make and publish this video. 😊

This was a timely video I was doing drop in practice on Wednesday I could do a drop in on say maybe a 3ft drop on to mellow ramp but the quarter pipe evaded me. I was padded up but took a slam on my elbow thankfully ok just bruised physically and to my pride lol. Thanks for the advice, my instinct from the quarter pipe was to lean back as I dropped even though I was telling myself keep the head over the front and commit with that front foot. After about 5-6 slams I paused on the basis it was better to walk away in piece than not! Thanks.

This makes me want to fly over to the states for a lesson man. Best skate tuition videos I’ve seen online and they’ve really been helping me get back into skateboarding. Keep up the great work!

I love this video. It's an amazing tutorial! Also, the student's excitement is relatable. That's one of the great things about skateboarding and i think we can all identify with that. Great teacher, great student. Love to see it!

PERFECT!! I've decided to practice dropins today. I haven't done a dropin since 1989. Good idea starting on a bank. I'm glad I saw that because the only quarter pipe at my tiny local park is 4 feet tall.

Glad you’re ok, try to remember that this is all about commitment mentally, and your body goes where your head goes physically, so stay Forward and don’t let yourself slip back. You can do it 💙🛹💙

i wish you were in los angeles man I can't get over the fear of dropping in on coping, but if I'm being honest i need to learn a few more things before i get to drop in.

It’s good you recognize that you might need more time on the basics first, enjoy learning and skating, you’ll never stop learning on your skateboard. Watch my drop in for beginners video for more help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4DToKRjlLyleaMsi=iJBSk0Bf0Ii07__0

Man... Ive watched this a million times and I still can't get the confidence to go it alone. I'm not even sure what exactly it is that I'm scared of... I just get to the top of the 3ft mini and my legs turn to jelly then the vertigo sets in lol !! It's not even that high hahaha. Would be super inspiring to see how you teach a nervous skater

Wear pads, Start on flat ground and then move to a mellow bank ramp, pay attention to leaning your head over your front foot when you slam your front wheels down. Bend your knees down right when front wheels hit 💙🛹💙

Saw "down under" during the birth of my 2nd daughter, nothing compared to when standing as an adult on a 3 feet mini ramp, trying to drop-in the first time.
