This is barely scratching the surface. SO much more could be said, but it would have to be a 3 or 4 hour video to include everything. These are the basics to help get you started (and not all of it is necessarily good advice, either). The biggest thing is to start with a quality skate (at least $80 U.S.), then you can upgrade as your skills and confidence increase.

Which skates should I buy if I just want to skate backwards and dance on the roller rink?
@MystiqueRisingSun6 жыл бұрын
The Roller Derby Cruze skates or Roller Derby Candi Girl (indoor) skates..any skate from either of the those lines that have a metal plate and the smaller, harder, indoor wheels if you're on a budget. If price isn't TOO much of an issue, I'd honestly go for the Moxi Beach Bunny (a wheel change will be necessary) or anything in Sure-Grip's artistic skate line. If you want a skate that's REALLY going to last, and price isn't an issue at all, get a Moxi Lolly...though they come with nylon plates, those plates are pretty much indestructible.
@l.a.k4 жыл бұрын
Rookie and Tempish have good and affordable beginner artistic skates. I wouldn’t go for the Beach Bunny for dance skating, simply because of how far apart the wheels are on the plate. They’re great for cruising and park skating, not so much for dance. The Sure Grip Fame is also good for dance skating. If you want to splash out, go for a Moxi Lolly, or if you want to splash out even more, look into Riedell.
@l.a.k4 жыл бұрын
Oh, also, if you want to skate backwards, a heel is recommended. It makes balancing easier, and therefore you can get more speed when you go backwards.
@essennagerry2 жыл бұрын
@@l.a.k Hey, I am yet to start roller skating but I feel like I would feel more comfortable with roller skates that aren't so far away from the ground and with a very slight or no heel. Speed is not important to me, just generally dancing and skating backwards but to do it with high speed is not important to me. I found the Story Duster Side by Side online and like how compact they look, it looks like it would be very comfortable to move with them. Do you think this is a bad idea for a beginner?

@MystiqueRisingSun6 жыл бұрын
Because a cheap skate isn't good and a good skate isn't cheap! Roller skates are one of the things you truly get what you pay for. Skates that cost less than $80 or so (U.S. dollars) are crap! Never, EVER, get Chicago skates. If you can find a pair online that is on sale (my youngest daughter just got some for the holidays, normally $90 skates, found on Amazon for $64)...jump on that deal ASAP! Cheap skates are just that...cheap! Inexpensive skates ($80 to $150) can last with proper maintenance and you can always upgrade them later as you gain confidence.

What's the difference between a quad skate with heels and one without, If both are soft boots. I read somewhere that the boots without heels are more faster than the one with heels, bit i am curious if that's the only difference. Thank you for reading my long comment.
@theprismaticsystem2833 Жыл бұрын
With heel you get more forward lean (promotes putting your weight balance over the balls of your feet) but higher center of gravity so it's really dependent on what you want to do which is better and even then it's mostly preference.

I just bought a pair of Impala hard boots. I'm 38 years old and haven't roller skated since I was 15. I can tell they are really high quality but they're a little hard for me to control - probably because I only ever skated in a really cheap ratty pair. It's gonna take getting used to - or I just might switch to a softer wheel in hopes I get better traction.

Just saw this. Sorry the reply is so late. If you haven't gotten any yet, I highly recommend any Sure-Grip, Candi Girl, or Moxi skates. Stay far, FAR away from Chicago. Also be sure the skates have proper wheels for whatever surface you plan to skate on: 96A up to 103A, wood, clay, or fiberglass for coated indoor wood rinks. 90A to 96A for coated indoor rinks (sport court, etc.) 85A to 93A for smooth, polished indoor concrete or wood rinks, dirty coated wood rinks, smooth outdoor surfaces such as parking lots, basketball or tennis courts, as well as skate parks. 70A to 85A for asphalt, "bumpy" outdoor surfaces, or anywhere you skate that has a lot of debris (small twigs, gravel, tiny pebbles, sand, leaves, slightly uneven sidewalks, etc.).

The soft or the hard wheels are better for danceing??
@SkatePro7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the surface your dancing on. If you want to be able to have a bit of sliding to your dance routine you might want a harder wheel. Usually people prefer small wheels with a low wheel diameter for dancing. The smaller wheels doesn't roll as fast, and that makes the control of the skate a bit easier and more fun when you want to spin and do fancy moves. :)

1:57 "if your toes touch the nose of the skate, you know they are too small".. BRAINWASH! xD i mean.. not to be rude but c'ommon.

Exactly! Your toes SHOULD touch....however, they should not feel "cramped". If the knuckles on your toes feel "scrunched" (you literally have to bend your toes to make the skates fit), then, yes, they are too small. Otherwise, they're fine!
