Thank you for watching. It is most important to keep the pushes very small and to keep all your weight on the gliding foot. This exercise is most important to develop one foot balance.

I've been casually skating for about half year now and had a good grip of balance. But practicing your drills really did wonders! Thanks for this, Shaun. You're amazing! ❤

You're very thorough and you demonstrate well each step. Too many skating videos are done by experts with techniques too advanced for beginner or intermediate skaters. Love these.

Loving the basic tutorials by the way, helps us all, it's easy to develop bad habits that are hard to rectify later, bringing it back to basics is really helpful.

Thank you for teaching us beginners the basics, I keep reminding myself to stay low every time I catch myself standing too straight.

I’m a beginner and when I got my skates last week, I couldn’t balance on one foot AT ALL. In just a few days of trying this exercise , I’m starting to get my balance, thanks!

@@kasoupy6518 pretty good! I get out to skate regularly, occasionally skate to work. I mostly cruise around, not really doing many moves but I’m comfortable skating around my city now.

I am SO glad you posted this! I was just practicing this in the park near my house tonight (along with a few stopping techniques) and I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. But now I get it: OUTSIDE edges! Thanks so much for this, I swear you must be psychic. Always right on time. :)

This is really cool! Reminds me of PintoPony's "one foot pedal" technique.
@FlowSkate
@FlowSkate 7 жыл бұрын
Yes. Basically the same technique. The "one foot pedal" is the T-Push applied to city skating for situations in which you can not properly stride.

I've been using this for travelling over wet leaves on paths , All your weight on gliding leg so any inevitable sliding with pushing leg doesn't matter ...really works on slippery surfaces 👍.

Great point. This technique is not only a building block but also a very useful tool for street skating.

I have been using similar technique on rough surfaces such as brick roads or other where side movements of skate could be stopped causing fall - ie. the thing that Mr. Bill S. does a lot - the back/propelling leg does more of a kick to the ground than push.

I can do this fine bit I lean out a lot from the ankle when I roll on one skate, guess I gotta adjust the frames a little. I do 'supinate' a bit in normal skating anyway, especially on my 110 wheels

I also tend to skate on my outside edges. If really ground my heel into the skate I can better engage my inside edge. But not matter what I am usually on my outside edges.

Thanks - another great tutorial. I'm nice and straight on my left foot but have trouble stopping myself drifting outwards on my right. Must try and fix my duck feet. ;- )

Great video. I have been struggling with this I just cant seem to glide straight. My skates lean more to the outside edge. I have readjusted my frames over and over but just cant seem to get it right particularly my left foot.

I am going to add some more details on a future video but it might help to ground your weight into your heel so you and make micro edging adjustments. I find that if I really try to edge through my heels I can better control my edges.

I teach skate lesson at elementary schools. The program is called Alien Inline. I get to skate indoors on gym floors all winter long. It would be worth researching community centres in your area. There is a good chance you could rent a gymnasium in a community centre for a very reasonable price. See if you can get a few people out to share the cost. That would be sick.
